600 miles away from home, very dependent on GPS and internet via my TB to get us here. Sitting in the bathrooms playing with the TB, and I find the change font area of the remix rom I have. I click on it, find a neat font, then click on it. Next the phone goes dead, then restarts and is stuck on the white screen with the HTC logo. Gave it 10 minutes, and still the same, white screen with HTC logo. Crap.

10 minute battery pull, and restart, same thing. Damn.

reboot into recovery and go back to a prior version backup. It powers on! Great!

Ahh crap. No service. WTH? Ahh I downloaded a new radio for the remix.

After sweating bullets for an hour, I reflashed the remix, and all is well, and it is back up again.

NOTE TO SELF AND OTHERS, DON'T CHANGE YOUR FONT!!!!

Welcome to the "Don't change your fonts" club. Been there, done that. That's why it's so important to make a back up of your current ROM so something like this will just be a small bump in the road.

And the pisser is I was REALLY looking forward to the new fonts.

Add in severe disappointment to the mix lol

You guys talking about the toolkit font changer? I don't work no more. Trident's no longer w/ teamBAMF and the server he used for certain files (such as fonts) was brought down. That's why nothing really works anymore in the toolkit, because it's no longer supported.

Note to self: don't make changes to the phone while sitting in a bathroom 600 miles away from home. :P

How about:

"Note to self, don't mess with something on my phone without having a recent recovery backup... even if you are sitting at home or 6000 miles away from home."

That is very true and if you forget once chance it won't happen a second time.

Das BAMF toolkit app>Extras>Fonts>Radiohead ( I tried the radiohead one, can't speak for the others)

Don't know if it is the "right thing" to do, but I went back to the backup that I did before I flashed my new ROM, then reflashed the new ROM again.

It worked for me, but I lost some settings (apps, positions, etc) because I didnt backup all of my stuff after I flashed

Every time I decide to root I read a thread like this and change my mind. I feel like I need an extra phone just for fun stuff and another I can depend on.

If you can not learn from threads like this, than you should not root your device.

Its always scary the first time and it will take some getting use to but if you plan on sticking with Android in the future and want to push your phone to the max.. you need to start somewhere. There's no better time then now with the great TB community we have. If you run into a problem someone will be there to help you out. The OPs problem is easily fixed by flashing a backup which takes 5 minutes to do.. problem solved.

I agree. Folks here are super helpful to noobs like yours truly. It's that sick feeling and the wave of panic that precedes the help that I fear. I'm reading (and hopefully learning) more and more each night. When I've deluded myself that I understand what's going on I will give it a try. God my keyboard is baggy tonight?

That's how I started.. When I first started with Android... I read as much as I could.. still didn't understand anything.. it was like another language.. read some more and it finally all kicked in. It took me two months to work up the courage to root my first device. What really helped was all of the reading followed by watching a lot of YouTube videos which put everything in perspective.

I have found myself I'm quite a few situations where I thought I had totally bricked my phone, but I learned a lot from the forums and helpful *internet* friends and was always eventually able to recover my devices. *I do change my font on a regualr basis* I use an app called absolute system from the market, and haven't had any issues changing font. Its a paid app, and also includes as block and custom boot loaders. (I have had some issues with the bootloaders tho, and had to restore or reflash after)
Here's the market link
