Short battery life

I just got my phone last week, and I find that the charging time is very long compared to what I am used to. If I take it down to the 1st warning (i think that's 15%), it takes over 2hrs to charge. Is this normal?

On a full drain, you should notice a quick jump up to about 80% (1 - 1.5 hours) and a slightly shorter period to charge the last 20% (45 mins) because of the Li-Ion battery. I'd say 2 hours to get from 15 to 100% isn't THAT long but maybe a bit longer than usual.

thanks, I just wanted to make sure I was in the ballpark of reasonable. I don't mind the long charge time b/c I've been getting surprisingly good battery life - it can easily go a full day with my normal usage. compared to my winmo 6.1 phone that i upgraded from, which i had to charge in the middle of the day. especially impressive given the usual newbie heavy usage.

I'm at about 54% and my battery started out @ 9am with 69% (unplugged it YESTERDAY morning at 9am)... made a few longish calls but that's about it. Wifi is on a home or on campus but when I'm on campus and studying I just keep it in Airplane Mode. Major battery saver and I am loving it.

my phone has been off the charger since 6:30 am this morning, I have made a few 10-20 min calls, about 50-70 emails, ran bluetooth for about 30-40 mins for calls today, few sms, pictures of my new baby and some videos as well and my phone is currently sitting at 49% at 11 pm. Needless to say my battery life has been insanely long, been that way since I purchased the phone. NOT rooted, running launcher pro plus with twitter and facebook widgets updating every hour and beautiful widgets weather updating every hour.

Mine says 64% after last unplug about 5 hours ago at probably 80% and I have made probably 15 calls and been on the internet for probably 3 hours. My display seems to be using the majority of my battery because I have the brightness turned all the way up.

I don't know what the popular belief is with Task Killers, but since I installed Rhythm Task Manager and set it to ignore the "necessities" (phone, calendar, daily briefing, messaging, browser, my battery status bar widget, clock, etc.) it seems to have easily doubled or tripled the battery life of my phone. But all those apps are "use at your own risk". I probably was surfing around the market for another hour today too and when I first got the phone it would have been completely drained by now.

Damn, I think you got an amazing battery- no way with that much use it'd only be at 49% after all those hours!

Even if I barely use my phone, it will not make it through a day on a charge. The battery usage screen says: 3 hours since unplugged, cell standby 42%, phone idle 27%, Android system 12%, display 9%. The battery is at less than 50%.

Are there other processes in the background draining my battery that don't appear in the usage screen? Is there an app that displays every process?

I got a huge increase in battery performance after uninstalling Advanced Task Killer and allowing Android to manage my tasks; however, as a side effect of NOT having Advanced Task Killer, I've noticed that Android will not keep Apps open and running such as Twitter. I have to manually open the App and refresh it to receive newer tweets. Go figure!

At any rate, I can go almost 18 hours without charging now, and I use my phone quite a bit. I just wish I could figure out how to keep Apps open and running in the background. I have no idea why Twitter isn't running in the background as it should.

I guess I got a battery on steroids. I get an average of 4 days out of mine. I use it for 2-3 calls a day, check email 2-3x an hour, and mess around with it or play a game 2-3x a day.

I burned it out in 3 days once playing Tetris for about an hour each day. Once I got 5 days out of it.

I turn off GPS unless Im going to use it, I turn off WiFi when I leave home, but I keep the animated backgrounds on usually. Brightness is on default level. I do kill apps when I am done with them.

I swear it .... easily 18-20 hours out of my battery. I do have the screen turned down to 8%, but with this super AMOLED screen that is plently bright enough for me.

I ordered an extra battery & charger from Amazon:
NEW Battery and USB/AC Wall Charger For Samsung Fascinate i500 (Verizon Wireless) cell phone Accessories

Works great! The battery seems to last a little longer than the origninal and I never have to plug my phone in to charge!!

Is it normal for a phone that has been "up" for 7 hours to have 2hrs and 33 mins of sensor usage under "android system". I have auto brightness off, and I have used my phone to make a single call all day today.

My phone was unplugged at 7 a.m this morning, and by 5 p.m it was saying plug in immediately. Starting to miss my BB. :(

Friend of mine has has a Sprint HTC EVO SHIFT. His battery life has always been much shorter tham mine. We both have the same phone. we were at the Huntsville Hamfest this weekend and he was complaining about his battery life and another friend asked him if his phone was HOT when he went to use it! The answer was yes! Second friend told him the magnetic catch on his case was turning ON his phone. We played with his phone and case and found out this is true! If he put his phone in the case face out it would come on when he closed the case. If he put it in face in, it did not come ON!

I always carry mine face IN and he always carried his face OUT. Not any more!!!!!

We are both using a horizontal belt case with a magnetic closer.

I have never seen this mentioned on any Android sight before and I hope this information helps others with battery problems!

Juice Defender really helped my battery life. I found that the main thing that affects my battery life is signal strength. The battery would last all day easily at home, but it would be dead by noon at work. Juice Defender disables the data connection when it isn't needed. I don't really notice any difference besides the battery life.

I had the same battery issue when I got the fascinate. It maybe lasted me half a day on a good day with moderate use. I decided to root the phone and try some new ROMs. Gradually things got better. But I have seen an enormous increase in battery life after flashing the GeeWhiz 1.1 debloated ROM that can be found in this forum. It has made the fascinate into what I think was originally intended. I now can go 2-3 days, sometimes more without a charge. All I can say is thank god, because I had considered getting a new phone, I was so fed up. Definitely recommend using it, you won't regret it, just make sure to follow the directions carefully so you don't brick your phone.

Rooting the phone will cause you to lose your warranty, but as long as you do it right, you will love the result.
