Should GMail be telling me how many new?

I had to download an app that was basically just a widget to get that.

The one in my pic is SMS unread count (free from market). It has widgets for unread sms count as well as unread gmail.

why the hell do you need that? it already has an unread number badge on the icon!

Yes it goes to your inbox if you click it.

The Gmail one, my only gripe is that the badge is red...not green.

The SMS does have a badge if you're using the messaging app or Handcent SMS.

The one I have has a setting to change colors of the icon I set mine to cyan.

Easy hoss. Neither the gmail app or the sms app have unread badges, unless you download an app that does it.

My 'Messages' icon always shows the number of unread messages. Does yours not show that? That's stock on mine.

'SMS Unread Count' is awesome! now i can have 2 separate icons for both of my gmail accounts and label the icon however i want. currently both icons say INBOX without specifying which inbox the shortcut is for. Now only if there was a widget to show unread message count for google talk???

Because HTC replaces the stock messaging app with their improved Sense UI version. Just another perk for HTC users :)

The stock Android app doesn't show unread count, so I have to use a third party app to do it on my N1.

also i found an app recommended by someone else for showing google talk unread, but its not free 'unread count widget'
