Should I buy a pixel phone for my next phone and ditch Samsung?

re:

LG and Samsung make nice HW the problem is the Software.
Pixel is well-oiled and runs circles around the other two. I also settled on a Pixel after many many trial and error including Apple, granted not the latest apple but still it is the software that ultimately drive me off the others.

re:

Most people don't understand that other than the specific applications that hog your RAM, bumping your RAM 2GB isn't going to increase application speed. The only thing that additional RAM DOES is allow your computer or smartphone to do more things at once, not actually make it faster.
With proper memory management the extra RAM is usually not needed, especially on a smartphone.
Oh I know, that's what made that such a profound statement. It just gives you more headroom to more run more stuff which you don't need out of pixel but you might on a Samsung device.

Yep, after years of Samsung and LG carrier phones I finally saved my money and broke the chains. Not going back.

It's been really weird not having to constantly mess with the phone and clear cache and disable stuff all the time. Instead for the first time in years I've been able to just enjoy the experience.

I agree with an earlier comment that this turned into a "which device is better" thread. The truth is the pixel 2xl has it's fair share of issues like force closes, freezing, lag, stutter etc. I reboot mine mine on average once a week or two.

My note 5 is stellar and is my business device. Not replacing it until it shows signs of aging.

Look, I like my Pixel 2xl. A lot. But does that mean it's a better device than anything Samsung makes. No. And honestly I don't care. People like what they like whether it's a Sammie, LG, Moto, huwaei, HTC, Apple etc. And we all like different devices for different reasons.

Can't we all just accept the fact that there are a lot of great devices on the market today. We can talk about why we like the devices we chose. But comparing (flagships) and say ones better than the other is opinion and not factual since none of us uses our devices the same way nor places the same level of importance on device features.
The BEST device is the one that is most suitable to your needs and lifstyle. Period.

Agree with your comments, however if you are having all of those issues something isn't quite right.

I don't disagree. I'm only stating things that I've experienced and in my experience I have had issues with Samsung and LG devices and their software. That said, if you use the features on those devices and like them, go for it, absolutely buy a Samsung, LG or iPhone, Moto, HTC, whatever IF IT WORLS FOR YOU. It's your money. But for my money right now, I'm sticking with the Pixel 2.

I think you should get Google to replace your 2XL BTW, sounds like something isn't right.

I don't think there is a pixel owner who can say they haven't experienced a force close, stutter, or some other issue. Don't be fooled by the PURE Android experience it will from time to time do stuff people say about other devices. It's not perfect is what I'm getting at. My pixel is fine and I expect hiccups every now and again. It may not be constant but certainly happens.

None here on my Pixel 2 XL...maybe a specific app force closing on occasion. All phones have issues....some less than others. Even my iPhone has issues from time to time.

Agreed. But it doesn't happen enough for my experience to be ruined. I can say without a doubt the pixel 2xl is the best device I have owned.

re:

I should also throw out. I don't update my apps. Currently in the play store I have 84 apps that need updating.

I update when forced i.e. a app doesn't allow older version to be used any longer. Or when an app constantly gives me a problem like force closing.

My philosophy is if it ain't broke don't fix it.

re:

App pair isn't even a good feature lol, it's more or less a waste of time.

That was just an example. I have Note 8 and Pixel XL and I can go on with the list. You can't even think of some stuff which Note can do. Depends on how well you can use the features on a phone to your benefit (after purchasing these expensive phones its good idea to invest time and effort initially to get maximum out of them. Isn't it? ). If not for updates, even moto g is ALMOST as smooth as Pixel.

re:

I ordered two Pixel 2XLs from Google last month and returned them both because of the blue tint/grainy display. Until Google adds in wireless charging (hopefully) and SD card expansion (not likely) to the Pixel I'll stay with Samsung for the better hardware. I've been getting monthly security updates regularly from Verizon (about 3 weeks behind Google) so software updates are not really an issue here. And yeah, having a headphone jack is pretty convenient :) But hey, to each their own.

re:

What carrier i have s9plus and its patch threw april also that is the dumbist reson ive ever herd sorry samsung note 8 is the best phone out followed but s9plus id put the pixel2 line about fourth after iphone x

Your carrier may have the April security patch, but MY carrier didn't have it. There's no excuse for a phone to be on a three month old security patch, IMO.

re:

Yeah you should at least try out the Pixel.

The Pixel has better software, the Galaxy has better hardware. Decide what you value more and get the phone that provides that.

re:

Coming back to the OP.... I alluded to it a bit in my original post... I guess when you boil down everything, the most desirable concept that Google almost always does better than anyone is consistency and reliability. I know, it's not perfect, no phone has that going for it. But with all the phones I've owned and used, I know what the expect from a Pixel. It does everything I need it to do and it does it well, and it does it well 12 months down the road as it did the day I take them out of their box.

Samsung is now dead to my wife because it would randomly fail to save pictures that she took. No rhyme or reason to it... no errors, everything appeared normal... just no file would get written (I did manage to see it in action a few times). It was a bug that several And she's had her fill of LG... that had it's own issues. Of all the phones I handed her with the promise that they would be good, only three managed to follow up on that promise; a Nexus 5, a Nexus 6P and now a Pixel XL. All did their duty and complaints came few and far between.

Which leads me into my last thought (at least now)... support. There isn't a single Android OEM that supports their devices on the same scale as Google. It is, in my opinion, the platforms single greatest problem. Google provides, effectively, three years of software support for their phones (the final year is mostly security/critical updates). And that doesn't mean that you might get some random 10mb security update 14 months after buying the phone... Every month you will get security updates and, if available, defect and feature updates. Buy one of Google's phones and you can be confident that it won't get abandoned in as little as 6 months from launch.

I am amazed that people will spend $1000 or more on a product and be completely OK with the fact that the manufacturer will most likely pretend that the phone doesn't exist once the next year's model goes on sale. A year from now, I'll be able to tap on a link on my now 18 month old 2XL and get connected to a live support rep. Samsung or LG.... you will be lucky to get back a communication that was even seen by an actual person and not a generic, canned email response.

Yes, I paid a lot for me 2XL, but I not only got a great phone, I got the confidence that Google will do me a solid if I run into a problem today, tomorrow, next June... That's worth something.

re:

I have used the Galaxy S5, S7 for the last 10 yrs. I bought the Pixel 2 XL, very pleased. Faster, better features, a camera l2
anything that blows Samsung away. Love my Pixel 2 XL.

If I got 10 years out of a 2014 phone, I would be a fan of Samsung phones for life.
