Re: should I buy asus zenfone 2 or not

Well-I'm going for it! I just placed my order. My phone will arrive Tuesday. I'll have to go to AT&T nonetheless as my current phone has a nano SIM card, so I'll need to get a new SIM. My second line is fine and has a micro SIM (Note 3) so is an easy pop the card in type deal. I'm looking forward to having both lines on one phone. I've grown fond of my Windows phone due the especially large screen size of 6 inches as I need reading glasses to see my screen, and sometimes I can get by a quick glance without them, so I'm actually giving up a larger screen, and better battery life but I think it will be worth it for the things I'll be gaining.

So in other words I should in fact be able to use my nano SIM as well from my Windows phone? I guess I can always take a look first and see. Now, I probably still will head over to the AT&T store since I want to talk to them about my plan anyway. Right now I am stuck paying a second data plan on my second line since I have my Note 3 on it, so since that won't be the case, I am going to see what I can to do to downgrade the data plan. I have unlimited on my my main number so I'm good there.

Yes u can use ur nano with adapter, I have a nano sim and adapters for when I switch phones it's simple and easy plus no need to be replacing Sims each time.
When u see how they sell Sims now Ull notice that it's a nano with surrounding borders that basically are adapters that u remove according to the application needed.

Re: should I buy asus zenfone 2 or not

I just got my ZF2 the 64 variant for 3 days now. I updated everything, every software in the phone including the so called bloatware. I'm charging once a day. Its just my normal usage i guess with casual calls and text, with surfing from time to time. My wife is using the older iphone 4S and she too is charging once a day. So I guess , the battery of ZF2 is just what I expected from a smartphone. and by the way I'm using dual sims in this device

Thanks-I'll checks this out when my phone gets in. If I can avoid going to the AT&T store at all I'll be fine . They messed up and then put it my second line on the higher plan anyway even though I wanted the lower one and I just left it alone since occasionally I knew I had the security of leaving one phone home just for a little while just in case--so I really do need them to lower it back to the one it's supposed to be on especially now since I'll be walking around with only one phone again, and if weren't for me being on a contract, I'd have no data on that line-I'll ditch the data as soon as I can and will even see if I can ditch it now if I can. (HA I can at least ask) LOL though, I'm far more interested in not having to remember to charge and then carry around two phones than I am having one as a back-up although it's nice to know if something goes wrong and a phone has to get fixed I have these phones as a back-up and could always use them while I wait.

Re: should I buy asus zenfone 2 or not

I think you should definately buy it.I have using for a few months and it never lagged though it has some battery issue but it hets charged very quickly i.e. 60% in 40mins.
It gives you a lot of personalization choices
1.all the games run on it smoothly,
2. asus launcher has different themes
3.supports all the icon packs
4.you can even set different fonts etc
So my suggestion to you would be to buy it .

My new phone is home and ready to go! Both lines are up and running on it. Is the charger that came with it the quick charger? almost would rather it be on a regular charger overnight and I have extra chargers floating around that can be used. Guess I'll read the forums some more-this seems like a regular charger. I have the 4GB RAM model. I am guessing it would be an extra accesory then. have it plugged in and since I don't have a battery percentage program on it just yet (haven't had time to load up all my apps yet, etc) I am not sure how fast it has charged yet-have to familiarize myself with the nuances of the phone-only have had it my hands for a few hours -but I am very pleased with the layout and design; it's comfortable and very elegant, and I am totally digging seeing both phone lines on the screen.

I'm curious if you read about AT&T not recognizing the Zen 2 as LTE. They all say you have to use an existing SIM to get LTE on it, if you get a new SIM it won't work unless you put the new SIM in a compatible LTE phone.

ime
I had not seen any of this until now and spent fun and games on the phone with AT&T today, Lots of mess ups even with well-meaning folks, like my voice mail being knocked off and the unlimited being moved to the wrong phone number and so forth. Was told that my phone should be displaying LTE now, but it's not-it still says H+. It was re-provisioned again by them over the phone but that doesn't sound good enough. Issue is that my main number was a nano SIM previous to this anyway which they woun't be able to fit in anyway. Also--my SIM 2 reception is very flimsy. It is not as strong as SIM 1. Now for data I don't care-but it's this way for calls; in my house right now I have full bars on SIM 1, half bars on SIM 2. At work today, I had NO SIGNAL AT ALL for SIM 2 which is concerning as that reminds me of throwback days of the 90's. I don't care about data, but I cannot make or receive phone calls at all on it of course-it is completely offline. This is only in one particular building that I'm not in every day and I suspect it's the building though it's still weird, and again, SIM 1 is normal. Plus-I think they are messing up because my SIM 1 is green SIM 2 is white and my indicator for data which I have set to go default to SIM 1 is now going white instead of green so I think AT&T messed up again. I think it will take a while before it all works out. Plus-now my SIM 2 just went offline again-no data. This is going to be a process because it was supposedly resolved and I can see t was not. Be that as it may-I love the phone and it will do what I want once all gets sorted out.

Re: should I buy asus zenfone 2 or not

Talked again to AT&T and I am told my phone is provisioned for LTE and was fixed to reflect that. I do believe it was fixed because when I called AT&T just now to fix it, right before the call, my phone was actually showing 3G at one point. Yes, 3G. They then called me back on another phone while I rebooted mine after they reprovisioned it and it is now saying H+ again, and the tech support rep said that this is because the Asus phone is not an AT&T phone so it doesn't show the "LTE" symbol but that I am still receiving LTE nonetheless. So, I'm fine on the LTE data issue now. Tomorrow I am going to get a replacement SIM 2 card to see if maybe I just have a bad one. It just seems odd that I have two cards next to each other and one gets half the reception strength as the other for basic phone calls and then even blips to no connection at all in brief spurts. So maybe it's a bad SIM card.

Re: should I buy asus zenfone 2 or not

Happy to report it seems it was a bad SIM card issue. Got it replaced. Off today so testing in different spots and all seems well.

Re: should I buy asus zenfone 2 or not

This phone runs a lot cooler than my LG G3 did. Only if I'm really taxing the processor do things get reasonably warm.

As for battery, it definitely isn't the best, but it's better than something like the Galaxy S6. I get around 4.5 hours of screen-on time, and of course the quick charging works very well.

Overall, there are going to be compromises when you are looking at a $200-$300 phone. For me, the Zenfone 2 works amazingly well for its price point. Really, my only gripe is that the camera app can be sluggish at times.

Re: should I buy asus zenfone 2 or not

I had hopes of my Zenphone replacing my Nexus 5. After using it a couple weeks, its a long way from it. Battery isn't much better, the screen is way too dark for my old eyes, after using stock android the Asus UI is a mess, forcing me to have a whole raft of options in the pulldown menu is stupid if I only want three. One thing I'd thought I wouldn't miss so much is the color changing notification LED. MAN I miss that from my Nexus. Zenphone just dumbly flashed green and you don't know WHAT the notification is.
Worst part- screen is FRAGILE. I have had mobile phones since the analog bag phone days, and the Zenphone was the easiest phone to crack the screen, the FIRST smartphone I have ever damaged. Short spill onto a tile floor...CRACK. Sent it back to Asus, they still have it and want close to a third of the cost of the phone to fix it. With my overall dissatisfaction with the device in the first place, I asked them to return the phone unrepaired Thursday. I'll use it cracked while I figure out what device comes next. Maybe Moto.

Just one old man's opinion. :)

Re: should I buy asus zenfone 2 or not

So ya drop a smartphone (with no case??) on a TILE floor and you don't expect it to CRACK!!? Seriously?

Re: should I buy asus zenfone 2 or not

Had a case. One of the clear plastic jobs. Was waiting on my armored case, which came in the day AFTER I dropped the phone.

And yes, every phone I have ever had has survived what the Zenphone didn't. Blackberry, HTC Evo, Moto Atrix, Note 1, Nexus 5, ALL survived much worse drops than the Zenphone did. May have been just dumb luck. In any case I am not smitten with the phone anyway, its not the game changer I expected it to be. I am using a ZTE ZMAX right now while I wait on the ZF to get back, its brighter, almost as fast, and has KILLER battery life. If it had 5.1, It would be my DD.

Re: should I buy asus zenfone 2 or not

I don't know if the ZF2 is much worse or better at surviving drops than the average smartphone, but a lot depends on what part lands first. Sometimes we are just unlucky :-(. I hope you will have better luck with your next phone!

Re: should I buy asus zenfone 2 or not

Hey guys, as an update to my previous post. I do notice that the 2GB ram version that own now, is experiencing significant lag. For whatever the reason it hangs up when exiting apps more than it used to. Also, my only complaint concerning both phones is that i find the notification volume is terribly quiet. I often do not hear new messages due to how quiet the output sound is. Which strange however because if i am listening to media the volume is very good. So this might be a software thing that can be fixed when we finally see the next OS update

Yeah I've had some lag with the 2GB model as well. I've cleared apps that I'm not using, but that doesn't always help. Maybe 5.1 will help it a bit. My Nexus 4 on 5.1 doesn't seem to lag at the points that my ZF2 is right now.
