Should I get the Galaxy Note 2, or wait for the LG Nexus?

Yeah, I would say if limited storage and sealed battery are not big deals to you, then hands down go for the Nexus 4. The benefit of direct Google software support seems tremendous, and based on current Nexus trends I think it will be a lot of phone for a very good price (unsubsidized).

Or if you are crazy about the oversized screen and/or stylus input or need removable storage or removable battery, and you are OK with Touchwiz and average software support (or if you are willing to bet on good custom ROM support), go for the Note. But bear in mind that if you are not eligible for a subsidized upgrade it is a pretty pricey phone.

I can just buy the 32 GB model instead of the 16 GB one if space is an issue, but a sealed battery would make me seriously second guess that new Nexus. I'm somewhat of a power user, so my Nexus has froze a few times. Not being able to remove the battery to force a restart would seriously suck.

With any luck, the "sealed" battery will only be as sealed as the Nexus 7. It takes all of about 15 seconds to pop the back off, and it goes back on without a problem.

Hope so, but it looks like it has a couple screws on the bottom holding the backplate on, and the battery itself also has a couple screws holding the battery cord down.

iPhone 4 user here going to upgrade to a droid soon. I'm eligible for an upgrade but the Note2 still costs $300 with AT&T contract. The Sg3 is at $200. I hope the Nexus4 is in the $200 range. Doubt I can justify the $300 with my wife.

I hear that they're making this in an 8 GB variety. I might get that one to save money, but then I'd have to use Google Cloud, unless they decided to bring microSD support back.

Engadget showed FCC diagrams that showed a 8gb and a 16gb.

T-Mobile just confirmed that they will be selling the Nexus 4 subsidized!!! That fact that I can get it for a subsidized price removes an advantage that I thought the Note 2 would have. As long as the Nexus 4 has a removable battery, then it's a no-brainer! I really only was considering the Note 2 so that I could combine a phone and a tablet into one device.

The lack of LTE is not an issue for me. HSPA+ has been more than sufficient for my needs. I can use Google Cloud to compensate for the lack of expandable storage. If the battery is removable, then I'm getting the Nexus 4!

Looks like the battery is sealed in there, unfortunately.

Actually the T-Mobile subsidized version does not seem like a good deal to me, it is only $150 off of the un-subsidized device. If you are on a value plan the total cost for the subsidized device after 20 months will be $600 vs $350 for the 16GB unlocked version Google sells.

I'll probably end up getting the new Nexus from the Google Play store, then.

Would getting the 4G Nexus 10 delay updates?

There is a 4G Nexus 10? Hmm, did I miss that announcement?

I'm actually planning to pick up a Note 2 tonight (I'm on Sprint), but I'm gonna play with it in the store first just to get a feel for the size. I really like a lot of the features, and it would probably be the first Android phone I've ever owned that I kept stock (except for rooting, of course). I don't really like the way touchwiz looks, but I haven't used a "stock" launcher in years, so that's really a non-issue.

Everything else about the Note 2 looks phenomenal. One thing for me specifically is that Samsung is making accessories for all their devices. I'm so spoiled on having the car and desktop docks, and I really don't see 3rd party manufacturers getting behind an LG device right now. Maybe if they can prove themselves in the market, maybe then... But that's a lot of if's. Or maybe's. Whatever :)

I'm not going to lie, though: I'm a little worried about how silly it's going to look to hold that thing to the side of my face :)

It won't look silly. I have the LG Intuition that is much more "square" looking and I can talk on it just fine. I've gotten used to it and it doesn't even seem big anymore to me

I decided against the N4....I'm not all that impressed with it and the idea that I would have to drop Verizon for it. Its just a shame that there is only one pure Android phone to choose from. I don't really care about it being more affordable either. I'm leaning with either the Note 2 or the HTC DLX. Until the Nexus line matures some and becomes more main stream I'll probably just not get one again.....I just don't want to jump carriers every year to get the next one. The whole idea is moronic.

If you were on T-Mo or AT&T you would have a new one every year since the first. :p

So, no jumping carriers at all unless you are on Verizon or Sprint.

T-Mobile is carrying a version with a wireless radio.

Are you sure? I thought that was the Galaxy tab 2.0? I suppose I could be wrong, I'll have to look at that.

Edit - http://www.tmonews.com/2012/10/t-mobile-announces-holiday-smartphone-lineup-premier-nexus-4-partner/

Samsung Galaxy Tab 2 10.1:

? Expected to be available starting 11/14 online and in retail stores

? Value Mobile Broadband Plan: $199.99 out of pocket down payment and 20 equal payments of $15 per month with a two year service agreement on qualifying voice and data plans

? Classic Plan: $349.99 after a $50 mail-in-rebate card with a two year service agreement on qualifying mobile broadband data plans

Is that what you are referring to?

I'm in this situation right now, except on AT&T. The Nexus 4 looks great, and the direct updates are a plus, but I tried out a Note 2 at a T-Mo store and was blown away. I'm still leaning towards the Note 2 right now. I'm fine with the "phablet" form factor :) .

Compare and contrast the two, then state which one you would prefer, and why.

If you want to deal with carrier interference and not have the latest Android version on your device get a Galaxy Note 2.

Or.... you can stay on the best network (Verizon) and root the Note 2 when available.
