All I really need it wifi hotspot tethering for my non 3G ipad...I used quick settings for a while..but i think the new 2.2.2 update killed the wifi hotspot option in Quick Settings...

Any wifi hotspots available without rooting? I know just enough about rooting to make bricks...I rooted my Motorola Charm about 1 year ago..but it seemed easier for some reason..I remember downloading a file to the SD card and then running the file via Astro file manager...now it seems like ROM flashes and Nandroid stuff is needed...that makes me nervous.

Thoughts?

There used to be a wifi tether that worked without root. I would root ur optimus IMO.

rooting isn't really that hard, i think the hardest part is getting to the right baseband version to do it, but i think theres something new out there that does it all for you called like gingerbreak or something (instead of the diag mode way)

Get oscc tool by drew yo. Or I can help u with gingersnap. Hit me back I've done both tools many times

Rooting the optimus s is easy! If you have Version ZVD even you can use this to root
[How-To] Rooting LS670ZVD with GingerBreak (no reverting and OTA works too!) which is a sticky here!

Ya, I recommend rooting as well. Just read, follow the instructions, take your time, and thank the devs when you are done. There are so many advantages other than hotspot. Run only one custom Rom and you will more than likely be hooked. LOL I know I was. ;)

if you like, there is even a more simple way to root (in my signature) also try a custom rom (after custom recovery is installed-also in signature), you will enjoy it very much!

If all you do is root and run stock, there is nothing magical in what you have done.

All you have done is copy su and busybox to your phone, and install SuperUser from the Market. It is extremely easy to undo this later (rm su and busybox, uninstall Superuser). You don't have to flash or unflash anything.

If you have the VD baseband, follow the gingerbreak method (I would rec the manual way using ADB, but that is just me, I prefer to know exactly what I'm doing).

Personally, I would do this and use the stock wifi tether before I would use some third-party hotspot thingy.
