Should I switch to an iPhone?

I'm sure this topic will stir up a lot. I've mostly been an Android user. Reasons I preferred it was to root them for ad blockers. Since I've been using my S21 Ultra, I haven't rooted it. I use DNS66 to block ads, and it's worked just fine.

I'm considering switching to an iPhone, since my entire family uses them.

I'm just looking for any pros and cons about switching.

Literally hundreds of threads about the matter, and thousands of irate posts with some few rational ones.

Good luck!

I switch back and forth. I feel more like at home with Samsung devices. More fun and freedom. Advantages that iPhone had in the past like fluidity, stability have been diminished lately. I still miss standby battery on iPhone and ease of camera use (much faster operation with camera on iPhone). And... That's all I miss. Perhaps, distant third would be airplay since my HiFi system supports it.

Pro: your family will finally welcome you to their flock fully

Con: you'll have to use an iPhone.

Switch, or don't, based on which phone best suits your needs. If switching provides an overall tangible benefit, then it could be wise to do so. Switching simply because it's what others use, as justification in and of itself, is similar to the, "If your family all jumped off a cliff, would you jump too?"

Why stir up anything. Someone wants a iPhone they should get it, someone wants a Android they should get it. They are the ones going to use the device.

I think you need to use whatever is most convenient and preferable! My husband's entire family, save for two people (and him and I) use iPhones, but we haven't switched. But everyone has different reasons for staying or going! It's all good!

You'd have continuity with things like iMessage and FaceTime, that is for sure. But if you're someone who's heavily entrenched in the Google ecosystem, it may be harder to deal with the switch.

Good luck, and keep us posted!

I recently went the other way. I was bored with my iPhone everyone I talk to even the girlfriend and my parents have them. But I wanted something different. I normally switch back and forth bc the iPhone gets boring. I say look for a cheaper iPhone that you can afford and buy it out right, then you'll have both and can swap whenever.

I have Android and an iPhone 8 plus. For me the iPhone is important for my Apple Watch. After using Android smartwatches I just prefer the health apps on Apple and the integration of apps.

Instagram is the app best on iPhone over Android. Other than that I find no difference in the use of apps between each OS.

Some of my subscriptions have universal use like Day One journal and PhotoRoom and the subscription on Google is often a lot cheaper than on Apple. Again Day One is about £6 cheaper on Google than Apple. And the premium features are available on both platforms. But other apps need to be bought or subscribed for again if you move to iOS.

You can use all your Google apps on iOS. Even duo calling. This makes it easier to move over.

I agree with getting an older cheaper model to test the water. Spending over £1000 on an iPhone 13 Pro Max is a huge outlay if you don't like the experience.

I couldn't be iPhone only. I find it too boring and the lack of customisation drives me potty. But each to their own and there are benefits to both ecosystems.

Good luck with your choice.

I have one of each, best solution for me and never gets boring this way. Keep your Sammy and get an iPhone also. Bonus: this way you always have a backup if one device gets messed up somehow.

I'm in the same boat. Family all uses Iphones, and I have the S20 plus. I play around with my wife's XS, and really don't care for it at all. I don't like the lack of customization, hate not having home and back button, and really don't care for the keyboard. Not sure how it works, but a lot of times when my wife misses a call and goes to look at the notification, the Iphone just decides to call the person back.
I had the family all download Google Duo for video calls, and it seems to work fine. I really don't get the attraction to Apple.

That is a great suggestion! Lots of users here have "the best of both worlds" and it works well for them!

Ive been IPhone and Android user long time , i like customization so Android you going miss if you go Apple.

I use both and for the most part the iPhone is more stable of a device and apps run better on the iPhone.

My s21 5g is a faster device to use over the iPhone wish they would join together and bring out a great device

Nah no drama necessary. Go with whatever suits your needs and wants. Each as its own positives and negatives. Some get both to balance things out. There is also nothing wrong with changing things up a bit. Get an iPhone and see for yourself.

Sometimes I feel that way too. However, I would certainly miss Samsung's Secure Folder and Samsung Kids. Then I realize I'm fine with my S21.

the fact that my aging parents use iphones was one of many reasons i went android. that, the lack of an AOD and the annoying woosh sound i couldn't disable. that being said, the iphone definitely felt nicer in hand.

My 15yo made the leap from his S10 to iPhone 13. He was tired of missing out on features in iMessage that all his friends had, was his main reason. Overall, his pros are WAY better battery life. Some apps, like SnapChat just have better features. Cons, he really misses the back button, home button, and ease of quick menu access. He figured out that you CAN use a library more like an app drawer and there are widgets on the iPhone, like on Android which is helpful, though they are more limited than Android (these are 2 features that most iPhone users don't use and one of the reasons I've been resistant). Airdrop would be my other feature that's missing. I wish QuickShare was compatible with AirDrop.
