Hello All,

Just wondering what everyone thinks about the new 5.0.1 update? I've heard its been messing the M8 up. I know it crushed my S5 that's for sure. Anyways tell me why I should it should not update to the new OS.

I would say it's a worthwhile update. There haven't been any major bugs or slowdown since I've updated to 5.0.1. It functions almost as perfectly as Kit Kat did but I say Kit Kat wins by a little because I felt its operation was amazing in every aspect. Battery and speed seems just as good in Lollipop and the few material design elements are nice to have.

Update. No problems for me. I'm on Sprint. Battery life is great for me. I did factory reset then the update.

I upgraded to lollipop on my old M8. It wasn't anything special. Hated the fact that I couldn't have lock screen widgets and I didn't like the lock screen notifications. My Battery life was really awful on lollipop draining really quickly more than before. When my M8 power button became faulty. Sent it back and got a new M8 under warranty. The New one had 4.4.4 out of the box and I've left it at that. I won't update to lollipop. Maybe when Sense 7 comes out, I'll look into it. Other than that I'm really happy with 4.4.4.

To be honest, the 5.0.1 update hardly improves anything on KitKat. The speed is marginally improved, you also get nice animations with Lollipop. The downside is that most of the lock screen notification apps struggle to display properly (you do have built in notifications that display from the Lollipop upgrade but the notifications are no way as good as NiLS). Also, there is NO WAY to disable those ridiculously annoying Heads Up notifications. I contacted HTC directly for them to investigate and even they came back saying this is not possible at the moment.

I would say stick to KitKat.

Either I'm not seeing what you're talking about, or none of my apps make use of this, because I don't recall seeing anything reassembling a heads up notification.

Either way, I preferred the overall functionality of Kit Kat over Lollipop. I haven't had any bugs, but more of a preference thing. I'm not a fan of the material design look and while there are some ok touches added here and there, it's not enough to offset the functions I lost. About the only real positive thing I like about lollipop is the recent apps screen now holds more than 9 apps.

Do you use WhatsApp? I get the Heads Up notification on every message when the phone is on anything other than Lock Screen. Unfortunately there isn't a way to disable this on WhatsApp, nor does HTC allow you to disable this feature via settings (which you can do on other devices running on Lollipop).

First, what carrier are you on?

Second, I've been running Lollipop and loving it. Some people don't like. I haven't had any issues but some people have had a lot of issues. I've had better battery life but no problems. So it's not universally problematic, but there definitely have been some problems. I highly recommend doing a full reset before installing the update and after as well, and doing a full cache and dalvik cache wipe, as that process seems to mitigate a lot of potential issues.
