Should the screen turn on when I receive a notification?

When my phone is asleep, the screen doesn't power on when I receive an email, text, etc. Is this normal on this phone? Thanks.

Mine doesnt. I think that is what the notification LED is for.

Handcent or GO SMS can turn your screen on when you get a text if that's what you're looking for. They are available in the Market.

"SMS Popup" will also turn your screen on when you get a text message. It has a iphone style popup if you want that.
