Show us your S22 cases!

How has the experience been with camera lens covers? Do you all use them? And does it cause reflection of light or bad pictures?

See my post on the previous page. Because the protective covers are not multi-coated anti-reflective optical glass (Like a real camera "filter" would be), you probably won't see much difference in things like sharpness, but flare is a lot worse outside of ideal conditions. Any time you ADD glass to an optical design, or even worse glass + an air gap, you increase the chance of reflections, which is what lens flare is. To some though that will be a fair trade-off for the peace of mind. With Amazon's 30 day return policy, you don't have much to lose if you want to try them out and see if anything bothers you.

I can use MagSafe stuff with it.

Ok so I gotta see it with the Magsafe wallet attached. Does it hold well?

Thanks for the feedback. I've been on the fence about them. I don't want to sacrifice the quality.

Here's the Caseology Nano Pop in Blueberry Navy on my green Ultra. I was hoping it'd be more blueberry than navy, but 🤷

You're welcome. I had them for the S21U and ended up returning them for that reason.

I bought the ESR ones for the S22U off Amazon and I will try them out and report back here. They have a different design to the S21U ones so maybe they are better - we will see. I would sacrifice a small amount of flare resistance for the protection, but if it is any worse than that in any way, they are going back.

Here's the Caseology Nano Pop in Blueberry Navy on my green Ultra. I was hoping it'd be more blueberry than navy, but ??????

That Nano Pop is sweet...I almost got it in the other color. But I heard a voice say "You already have 13 cases. Stop." So I rushed off Amazon. Lol.

Ringke Onyx (Camera protector friendly) is absolutely the best case you are going to get for $12.99 :) You will not be sorry if you purchase this one.
Fantastic fit, finish, feel, buttons and grip. Also lays nice and flat on the back and will work perfect with camera protectors.

This is the only one I've bought so far. I usually don't use cases for long. I prefer a naked phone. I've been thinking about a getting a clear one though.

I can't do a naked phone. I actually think I may break my "no screen protector" rule, because I'm not drop confident with the leather cases I bought. There's not enough to them. They look so good tho. I don't drop my phone a lot, but still. I've never had a scratched up/cracked screen, and if it ever happens, I'll come undone.

i've asked here before, but i'll ask again since i don't believe anyone answered...yet:

may i ask if anyone has tried a Peel case?

they are minimalist cases but very form fitting. got good reviews.

since no one answered, and i waited and waited, i finally ordered one for my S22 Ultra. i guess i'll be the first one to report about it when it arrives!

A note on camera lens protectors - I am a professional photographer, and I have tried these lens protection products for my previous S21U as well. They provide the advertised protection from physical damage, but the issue with them is they flare like crazy - any time you introduce another layer of glass to a lens design (especially ultra cheap 'glass' used for these protectors) you increase reflections. On "real" cameras, that is why quality lens filters are made out of proper borosilicate glass and multicoated specifically for reflection reductions - obviously the the lens protectors that are made for pennies sold on Amazon are not using anything of the sort. I took them off my S21U after too many issues with flare - YMMV. Other than a case that provides a cover for the camera assembly though, you don't really have any other option for lens protection.

I tried camera lens protectors once on my Note 20 Ultra - the first one gave ridiculous flare, and the second one - even though it didn't give noticeable flare, there was degradation of picture quality that wasn't very noticeable until you zoomed into the picture - but nonetheless there was degradation. I swore off using lens protectors. I didn't get any for my ZF3, and won't get anything that would obstruct the lens. It's not worth it to me to hear all this about nightography and them adding a super clear lens only to possible defeat those things by adding something on it. I am not a pro photographer but it is a hobby and originally I thought it was just like me adding a haze filter to my camera lens, but nope. So I totally agree about these lens protectors now. I thought of a case with a flap that would cover the assembly, but honestly I figure I would miss a lot of unexpected shots forgetting to slide that flap open!

Anyone know what the absolute thinnest case is for Galaxy S22 5G? BARE hasn't released theirs yet, or I wouldn't be asking.....thanks!

@kjjb0204:

Yes! 2 posts back, i mentioned Peel. just google Peel case and watch a few youtube videos about their cases!

i just need a minimalist case in order for Popsockets to stick to the back due to hand surgery, which necessitates using a Popsocket to help me hold the phone.

I guess I'm just paranode, I'm rocking the Otterbox Defender Pro, walking up a customers driveway today, and looked back phone on the ground, OMG. Got a Spigen Ultra Hybrid clear case, but I'm gonna live in the Otterbox for a while

I had it a few phones back.... It would fit your need but not much protection. It is super thin.

I bought 4 cases so I thought I will share my experiences here:

1) Nillkin Camshield Pro - Love the idea (sliding cover over entire camera module), but the rest of the case is terrible. I used this case on my S21U but the hole is both too small and too deep to allow access to the S-pen on the S22 model, making it useless. Unless your fingers are the width of a pencil and you have long fingernails, good luck getting the S-pen out. Totally useless. Otherwise a very basic case, nothing special about build quality or protection level. Very uneven/wobbly if set on a flat surface or wireless charger as well.

2) Torras Shockproof - Great look & build quality, especially with the frosted back. Extremely slippery though, and drop protection is minimal. If you like a very slim minimalist cast, this is the best I have seen. Cutout is big enough to access the S-pen without issue. Way overpriced at $30 CAD.

3) Caseology Parallax - I think this is going to be the case I keep. Excellent build quality, great protection without being super bulky, and adds a little extra protection for the camera housing that other cases do not offer (between the lenses). S-pen cutout is extremely easy to access. Indents on back feel great on the fingertips and there is plenty of grip. Buttons feel great. Good price too.

4) Supcase Unicorn Beetle - Expensive and bulky, but top tier protection. Has a port cover for the USB-C charge port which is a feature I wish way more cases had. Portrait and landscape orientation kickstands are a nice touch.

Hopefully that helps some of you folks!

I have #3, the Caseology Parallax case. There is a photo in previous posting I made. I like this case too for the same reasons you stated. This case offers good protection without adding a lot of bulk.

One more thing to add to this - looking at reviews on the ESR Camera protectors (which I bought but probably will return without installing) is they fog up with temperature changes. This exact same thing happens with screw-on lens filters on traditional cameras when you walk from a cold area to warm area, for example. So it appears the lens protectors are not making a proper seal with the camera lens itself, and the last thing you want is moisture trapped between the protector and the lens. There was another review stating they damaged their phone trying to peel them off.

I guess at the end of the day, most phones these days have large camera arrays, and most people just use normal cases without any dedicated camera protection - you don't read about many people damaging their camera lanses. With the right case, they are pretty far recessed anyway, so even in your pocket or whatever, there will be little to no contact.

I can't seem to find exactly what Samsung uses on the front of their lenses, but I assume it's the same Gorilla Glass Victus as the rest of the phone (I would like to confirm).
