Sides of Screen Less Responsive

I just got a used Huawei Mate SE, and everything seems good except for the edges (sides and bottom). They will sometimes take 2 or 3 taps to register touch. And it's not like dead spots, it's like DELAYED spots?

I might have thought I was imagining it if I hadn't just come from the exact make and model phone, so I know how it should behave at the edges.

Any idea what this is or how to fix? I saw advice online to up the sensitivity by upping the pointer speed in Language & Input settings, but that hasn't helped.
