Signal Strength

Trying to figure out if it is my particular phone, or the fascinate across the board...

I am missing calls / voicemails and have had horrible reception since getting this phone 3 days ago.

My signal strength is always showing either -106dbm, -101dbm, or if im lucky -96dbm

Holding my old BB Storm side by side it reads 10-15dbm lower (better).

I know the bars are not accurate, but I vary between 0-2 bars at best.


I've tried *228, *22899 neither made any difference.


When I check what has been using my battery "Cell Standby" is usually at the top. And upon click on it, it usually shows anwhere from 40-80% "without signal".

Yet the status page always says "In service"


What has been your guys experience?

Update:

I went to a Verizon store. Held my phone next to the display model. Display model showed -86dbm mine shows -96dbm.

They switched out my phone for a new one.. ALL FIXED

I now get -86 to -96 in the same places I used to get -101 to -106.


FYI, I have also determined that the fascinate does not display signal strength like most other phones. There basically are only 5 dbm ratings that directly correspond to the bars of service. (stupid I know).

But the fascinate works as follows:

4 Bars = -86 dbm
3 Bars = -91 dbm
2 Bars = -96 dbm
1 Bars = -101 dbm
0 Bars = -106 dbm

What app are you using to measure the strength? Couldn't find a built in one.

Moble signal widget is a good one, thats what I use

I was going to tell you that your screen should be the largest user of power...definitely something wrong with what you were experiencing.

I was just using the built in one (Settings > About Phone > Status).


Like I said though, its not very good.

I've worried about this as well. I've experienced a lot of random dropouts, where service will drop from 3 or 4 bars to 1 or down to 1X where I've always had nothing but 3G/EV service in my town. I just powered on my BB Storm 9530 and it's reading a steady signal of -80dBm but my Fascinate is reading signal that fluctuates between -91 to -101dBm.

Should I contact VZW?

Well, Its just a fact that this phones reception is not as good as the BB Storm 9530. But that is the same problem I was having. Though while my BB Storm read -84dmb my old fascinate read -101 / -106 dmb

My new fascinate reads -96 dbm while the BB Storm reads -84 / -86 dbm


If you are concerned try going to a verizon store and place your fascinate next to their display model. Check the readings on both. That way you can comparing Fascinate vs. Fascinate, & not apples vs. oranges kind of thing.
