chimpboy74, you must be on Lollipop (5.0), which means you are choosing Do Not Disturb, which also silences your alarms. (Don't ask why, but "silent" mode no longer exists in it's previous form). What you need to do in Lollipop is turn on "Priority" Mode. From your home screen, hit your volume button down and your volume adjustment will appear. Note at the bottom the three options - Silent, Priority, Off. Silent will silence everything (including alarms). Choose Priority instead and your alarms will still go off.
To adjust other apps and whether they are set as Priority, go to Settings, Sound and look under Notifications. You have the settings there for Apps - choose the app you still want to alert you even when you have everything else off, then choose Priority Notifications for it. That will allow it to still alert you during Priority mode.
