SIM Card Question

Hello all, I am new to this forum. I'm a n00b when it comes to Android lol. I have a Samsung Galaxy S Fascinate. My friend rooted it and flashed a ROM on it because I didn't know what to do. Now, when I try to turn on my Fascinate, it doesn't startup. So, I'm getting my friend to fix the problem. I have a spare LG Optimus One that I am going to use in the meantime. I was trying to unlock it. I bought an unlock code online but I am having difficulty trying to unlock it. How do I know if it is unlocked or not? I try putting in my SIM card from my Fascinate into the Optimus One but nothing happens. It still says not in service. What do I do? I need help please! Well, unfortunately the bad news is that you used to have two phones and now you've got that's a brick and another which will shortly become a brick if you keep playing around with it. Brick is what we call a phone that's been rooted and the process wasn't done right or the software was not appropriate to the phone. Sometimes the damage can be undone, but in many cases it can't. ie. when the phone cannot be made to communicate with a PC in order to flash the ROM. Some phones also have software that guards against rooting just like that. Hopefully, your friend can reflash your ROM (or maybe both ROM's) and you can get back to something useable again. If not, you'll have two bricks

Why do you want to root or flash your ROMs anyway? Usually, if there's something that you really hate about your phone/device, you can find some place on the net that can change it without rooting (and thereby voiding your warranty!!!) since you're probably not the only one in he world who hates that particular feature. If you're a hobbyist or just hate the thought of someone telling you how your phone should work, then you yourself (not a friend) will have to really get to know how these things work before you turn your device(s) into a brick. That's done by reading books, magazine articles and forums BEFORE you do anything to your phone. I got started by reading, taking courses and then getting a computer and phone with which to play around and another one for daily reliable use that I didn't touch till I knew exactly what I was doing. Even then, there are variables which can change (different versions of operating systems and software) that can trap you
