I recently purchased the SGH-T999 on eBay from someone that advertised it as a "new, unlocked" phone. This phone was working fine (using it on the Solavei network) but as of 11/27/12 it stopped working. Contacted the mobile phone provider Solavei and they are able to call the line but I can't receive calls or dial out. I went to T-mobile's website and searched a bit, and found an article related to "SIM Subsidy Unlock Code". I then contacted t-mobile support to get to get this code via chat and they said that I was not the authorized user and they could only give this code and the instructions to unlock it to the authorized user. Contacted the seller on eBay and he "shockingly" is not the authorized user of the phone and couldn't provide the unlock code or information about the authorized user.

I went to GSMLiberty.net and spent $30 for an unlock code but after 3 attempts that is not working either.

I contacted T-mobile again and they said that if I faxed a copy of the receipt that within 10-14 days they would send me the SIM Subsidiary unlock code. Still waiting on that email from T-Mobile but I was wondering if anyone else has run into problems trying to truly unlock their Galaxy S3 and use it on another provider's network? Thanks in advance for any information you can provide, rapidly souring on eBay mobile phone purchases. I love the phone and look forward to promoting Solavei (no shameless plug here ;) but if you want to find out more check out my site at Solavei unlimited talk text 4g data no contract smartphone).

Recently purchased, stopped working 11/27/12 (Purchased when?)
How old is phone?

SIM Subsidy Unlock Code= Unit will not accept SIM from another carrier.... PERIOD
My experience has been a SIM from another carrier won't work for a "while", then quit working. Upon inserting a SIM from another carrier a message will pop up on the screen saying "Foreign SIM detected" (or words to that effect) and the phone won't work.
Once the SIM lock is removed, it should remain unlocked (Unless you flash it with a locked image.)

*Foreign SIM= SIM from another carrier than phone is locked to.

The phone working for a while, indicates something else is amiss.

Best scenario:
Solavei SIM card is defective /outdated. = Suggest you REPLACE it. First step would be to get it swapped out.
Alternatively Obtain a T-Mo prepaid sim, or borrow T-Mo SIM from a friend. Does a T-Mo SIM work in the phone?
Solavei, whoever and wherever they are has provisioned your line wrong? Suggest they DELETE, they setup your line(s) again.
Solavei is having "problems" (Good luck getting them to admit problem is on their end.)

Worst case= Assuming phone has the correct RF bands for your region of the world is phone is defective, phone has been blacklisted as being stolen... your provider has detected a phone on their network they don't like.

Another possible reason phone "stopped working" = Water damaged? Disassemble phone, check internals. How long did phone work?

RE: GSMLiberty.net and spent $30 for an unlock code but after 3 attempts that is not working either.
Q: Does GSMLiberty.net, the software used show the phone is unlocked? What was their response? Copy and Paste the exact error message you are getting, if any.
(I'd try another SIM in the phone..)

PS: Wish you the best, but good luck on getting T-Mo to send you the unlock code, unless someone screws up in that department I doubt they will send you the unlock code.

You don't have a T-Mo account
You're not a T-Mo customer.
Ebay transaction.
Seller not a authorized dealer?
Seller not authorized user
Seller cannot provide information about authorized user. Phone could be stolen, or blacklisted.
You're wanting to use the phone on another network.

PS: You sure the phone isn't PUK locked? You didn't assign SIM unlock password, type in the wrong password and PUK lock the phone?

Oh, one last thing.... POST BACK A DETAILED FOLLOW-UP on what happens!
