The tabs in Chrome for Lollipop have moved to multitasking panes. You should still have ability to open multiple pages, but to move between them you'll have to use the multitasking/previous apps button.

Go to Chrome>Settings> Turn off - Merge tabs and apps. This will put it back to how it was.

Yes, this was also what I discovered I had to change to get that functionality back after the lollipop update. Isn't it fun finding all the little changes after an update?

Yeah, merging tabs into cards is actually a useful idea if you're multitasking between apps as well as browser tabs, but if you're only switching between tabs it just isn't as convenient.

Why can't the Nexus 7 version of Chrome have multitasking panes? I find the tabs with one card annoying.
