Voice commanded assistant. A lot like siri for those iUsers. Just better cuz its on Android. I stumbled on it yesterday when I was bored and flippin through the play store. I've never seen it before so I wanted to share it with my fave community of followers. Tap the good ol thanks button if you like the app. I'd appreciate that. Like always there's a free and paid version. Paid open mores possibilities for voice commands but I haven't forced myself to buy it yet.

I looked but I can't seem to find any description of the difference between the pro and free version. Their web site seems to be in German.

There's a new buzzword in the tech industry. It's used when an app gets a LOT of hype including millions of dollars in advertising but, in the end, no one uses it. It's called a "Facetime" app.

I think it's pretty clear that Siri is now a Facetime app.

There's a few instances I've tan into. When I say. Wake me up at 6am tomorrow morning. Setting alarms are only in the paid version. I also found that when I asked it to remind me to scratch my 8@lls in about 5 mins...it said the same about paid and free versions. I might just buy the paid version to unlock everything.

There are a few of these. Vlingo is the only one I've tried. Like Siri you have to get the question right, and most of the time you prefer just googling or doing whatever you want directly.

There's also Evi. Last month Apple threatened to remove Evi from the app store. (Apple claimed it looked too much like Siri, and would be confusing to users for that reason. (yeah right))

So it would seem that the idea of using voice recognition to present a search query is not very unique... and all of these tools will evolve and Siri will not be a competitive advantage...

...in the olden days, a "vocally-presented search query" was called a "question" :D

The thing that siri has that I find useful is a tie to your gps for location purposes. So you can say, "remind me to take out the trash when I get home." and via gps and your contacts, it knows when you get "home" and I guess pops up a text/message telling you to take out the trash.

I wonder if the paid version version of this app has that functionality?

I second that. If the app does in fact have that built in. I'm buying. That's an awesome feature. Excellent point!

I tried Iris when it was in alpha and found it to be very clunky. Has it improved in the 4-5 months since?

I've used Vlingo, but I found that I'm simply faster googling it/doing it myself.

Sorry this isn't new AC has done post on this there are a handful of apps in the proper section of this forum.

An app called Eva has the tie in to gps for reminding you to do something when you get to a certain place. It has a free full functioning trial for 28 days, then cost 9.99 if you want to keep it.

I must be the only person who doesn't really care about having a "Siri for Android". Voice Actions does the job just fine for me.

Most of these 3rd party apps just haven't done it for me. For now, I'll stick with voice actions and wait for "Assisstant"...not that I use voice actions so much anyway. Usually, I find that telling your phone what to do is mostly gimmicky and it can be done quicker by just tapping the screen a few times.

I guess its all about the technology age. Further into the future that we get. Laziness comes along with it. So in essence tapping the screen a few times isn't much work at all. But I like the remind me in blah blah blah quick notes...

This subject seems to be a lot more popular than I thought. Thanks for all the contributions everyone. :D
