Sirius XM Affect on Data on Pause

was researching this question and found this [unanswered] post in another forum, but I have the same Q...

anyone?

"Can someone tell me if the Sirius XM app still uses data on my phone plan when it's on pause? Sirius does use a lot of data I've noticed, so I have been putting it on pause when someone comes to my desk (at work). But I may not get back to the phone for 15 minutes or more.

Same question could also apply to Pandora, although I know Pandora is not using as much as Sirius.

Anyone know the answer to this? "

yeah, anyone know?

I no longer have SiriusXM, but one way to test this would be to get it going so you can pause it. Leave it paused and check the data usage stats to see if it keeps climbing. You may need to leave it paused a while and exit/enter the usage stats to get that to update. I'm sure it will still use a little as it updates playlists, album covers, etc. as the stations progress.

Pandora I think will stop using data for the most part. If I'm not mistaken, it works by downloading the entire track at once. So even as it's playing it stops using data until time to grab the next song (or advertisement...). I use it a lot, so I'll test this and get back to you later today.

It looks like Pandora may still use a few MB/hr, but nowhere near the amount as when actively playing. Something else about Pandora is if you pause it and send it to the background, it's quick to be killed.

ok, so the results of my test are that SIRIUS XM app uses no significant data per hour.
The best I could muster was 1 MB of data for an hour, and I don't think that was 100% accurate.

So, thanks for the tip! and feel free to use "the pause" with no worries!
