Skinned Google Messages

Re: Google Messages: Still no Apple emoticon responses yet...

A dependency on the Server Side for things like getting (or not) an OS or an APP update, makes sense to me. It also makes sense to me for if this "reaction feature functionality" depends on RCS (but reportedly it's not supposed to be).

If this "reaction feature functionality" is purely accomplished in relation to the actual SMS messages, then why is there any dependency at all on Server Side. SMS messages are supposed to be directly between devices, via carrier. SMS messages on Android aren't supposed to be like "iMessaging", dependant on phone manufacturer services (once an applicable OS and APP exist on the phone).

Something Weird going on, in my opinion.

So I've admittedly not researched the topic too deeply. But I hadn't heard anything about it working with regular SMS. Only RCS.

It was never clear to me how it actually works, but I specifically earlier asked some folks (other threads), when they said they had it working, if it was RCS doing it, and they reported back that they had it working without RCS.

Also, for it to be happening due to RCS would presumably mean Apple was then also playing on RCS, would it not (which I don't think anyone has yet reported)? RCS is basically the same concept as iMessaging (an app sending stuff over data, not using pure SMS).

Now that I think about it, it wouldn't have anything to do with RCS because Apple doesn't follow RCS protocols, so yeah, it would just be normal SMS.

Re: Google Messages: Still no Apple emoticon responses yet...

Google figuired a way to decode emoji reaction for iPhone users so to me they had to do this through RCS because Android users get reaction with other android users through RCS

Sure, that's my assumption also.

But then, it doesn't make any sense to have a dependency on any Google Server Side stuff (other then for getting initially a correct OS/APP/Beta version installed), unless all the SMS/text messages have to be forwarded by the phone to Google Cloud for "interpretation", in order for this to work (that would be scary if that's what happening).

I'd like very much if someone could confirm if this is actually RCS or not.

It seems it does from this article

Re: Google Messages: Still no Apple emoticon responses yet...

I'll see if I can come up with a article
I tried to figure this out earlier, but only based on what others said in other threads, and also other articles earlier posted. Maybe it is all now clear and I just missed it.

Anything you can add for clarity would be great.

Re: Google Messages: Still no Apple emoticon responses yet...

Maybe Google is using the "RCS libraries" to help decode the reactions it is receiving via SMS from Apple devices.

That would make sense to me, based on the existing confusion about all of this.

Re: Google Messages: Still no Apple emoticon responses yet...

this is bizarre from the point of view of:

- we're all using/owning brand spanking new phones, essentially top-of-the-line new phones, so why wouldn't Google push this beneficial service down to all of our new phones? it would only make sense, right?

- i happen to be on TMobile, and from what i understand, TMobile uses RCS or rich text or whatever that's called. i remember distinctly reading something about it and was happy that, whew, TMobile is one of those carriers who does indeed use this whatever it's called rich texting method.

- we're all enthusiasts, so we're on the ball with updates and we check and update our apps and all. it would only make sense IF most of us, if not all, would have this update pushed to us on this thread already. it doesn't make sense that folks owning brand new top of the line phones, from the biggest manufacturer no less, with the largest market share, would NOT have this pushed to us.

Still in the server side waiting room. I had my sim in the P6P and noticed I had iPhone emojis but lost the categories...wonders never cease to amaze

Can you please merge the other thread that was started please?
