Skinned Google Messages

Correct me if I'm wrong, but I think you're just referring to RCS reactions, right? RCS users have the option to turn off read receipts.
Yes I'm talking about RCS reactions as well as iPhone reactions as emojis. Yes RCS users can turn off read receipts. My sons had theirs turned on. I was replying to gorgalis post

My other son has a AT&T unlocked S22 Ultra using Samsung Google Messages and there's no read receipts etc between us.

Make sure this son has the read receipts allowed in settings. If he does not have that turned on you won't get them.

He does have them turned on. We've been testing and trying to get the RCS chat functions to work between us on our S22 Ultras, both using Samsung's Google Messaging app as I stating in my earlier post. My other son had a S20 using the original Samsung Messages and RCS works between us. But not my son who has a S22 Ultra using the Samsung skinned Google Messages. But his RCS works with his other non S22U contacts. Weird

Yes it is weird. I have sort of just given up on trying to understand and just hope an update is forthcoming soon that gets all working as it should. RCS is so much better that plain old SMS and all phones and carriers should get it working.

I took the latest update of the Samsung version from Play today. Now, my toggle for showing iPhone reactions in Advanced settings is gone...BUT, those still work (had my daughter react from her iPhone).

In addition, when someone mentioned it yesterday I realized I hadn't had for a while the toggle to show typing. Today, it's there instead of the iPhone reactions toggle.

I have a locked AT&T S22 Ultra. I uninstalled the stock Samsung Google Messages updates. Downloaded this version of Google Messages from apkmirror and installed it. I have the iPhone reactions as shown by the red arrow. I only get read receipts from my son's AT&T S20. He's using Samsung Messages, not Goigle Messages. Just out of curiosity, are you Chat services from Google provided by ATT? Or Jibe?

From what I've seen on the ATT forums, The only people you will have proper RCS with are other ATT customers using a S22U. You won't have proper RCS with another ATT customer using another phone. That has been the gripe on ATT forums as it's closed right now specifically to S22 users under ATT using an ATT version of the S22. It's very frustrating.

FWIW: On my Verizon phone and the ...20220310_01_RC00.phone_samsung_dynamic it is Jibe.

It's provided by AT&T.
We're all on AT&T. RCS works properly between my son that has the S20. It does not between my son with the unlocked S22U.

I have this version on Sprint T-Mobile. Google Messages beta and I don't any reactions for android or iOS Screenshot_20220318-161420_Messages.jpg

Yeah AT&T did something stupid and only allows RCS between other AT&T devices. So if it's unlocked it won't work. There was an article about this issue not long ago.

I do notice now there is an update in the Play Store that wants to install the Samsung version. I'm going to pass on installing it until there's another newer version on the APK site.
