Skinned Google Messages

It is interesting how there are all these differences. I am a beta user but have the _RC00.phone_samsung_dynamic version. The latest app update was this morning. My Advanced settings screen is:

I have the same app version on ATT firmware phone and my menu FINALLY showed the iPhone emojis option sometime this afternoon and I did not have a software update. Like someone said earlier - it definitely looks like this is all being controlled on the server side to dictate what we see - though there seems to be no rhyme or reason as to who sees what!

I am on Verizon and had two app updates today but still no changes I can see.

It'd be nice if they actually indicated in Play some of the things updated in each version. Instead of that default "bug fixes and stability improvements" under "what's new." Very enlightening!

I also took 2 updates yesterday and see no obvious changes. I still have the iPhone reactions toggle, but not the other newest features toggles (sorting, etc.) on the Sasmung version Messages. Same as before the 2 updates.

I'm afraid to update because categories are working but I'm still missing the iPhone reaction option.

I'm using the 20220308 dynamic version of the app. I've been avoiding the play store update and installing an apk from apk mirror because I do not want to lose the categories.

Can anyone say whether they lost any features after updating once they became available?

I did have the categories briefly at one time, but at this point I can't remember if that was while on the open beta or since I switched back to the Samsung variant.

So has anyone gotten a text that is under the business category and it should be under personal or vice versa? I can't figure out how to move it from one category to another.

Yes I agree. I got another update to Messages this morning. So that makes 3 updates since 3/22. Not only is there no description of what is being updated, when you look at the app in the store, it says the last update was 3/21. So not sure what these latest are. Likely because I am a beta user the updates I see are only beta updates and the store only indicates the regular updates, but it does not indicate even that.

On my Samsung Galaxy Z fold 3 I have the Categories tab which is still on 4.0 but on my Samsung Galaxy S22 Ultra which is on 4.1 doesn't have the Categories listed. Crazy.

Google Messages: Still no Apple emoticon responses yet...

i am very interested in getting the Apple emoticon showing up in my Google messages app on my S22 Ultra. however, despite a previous thread (can't find it anymore) where i read and participated on, where some folks already have the UPDATED Google messages app where in Settings/Advanced, they have an EXTRA item saying that Apple emoticon replies are supported.

well, a number more weeks have gone by now and i still have nothing.

there is no way for me to update my Google Messages app IF they don't push it to me.

may i ask if most others are in the same boat as i am? or am i the exception?

thank you.

Re: Google Messages: Still no Apple emoticon responses yet...

I've still not gotten it yet either

Re: Google Messages: Still no Apple emoticon responses yet...

I have it but I haven't had anyone to text me from an iPhone to check it. It's in settings- advance. I'm running this version of Google Messages. SmartSelect_20220324-185006_Messages.jpg

i don't know how i could get your March 21st update! mine is February something update, though just now, merely half an hour ago, i checked and had a google messages update (along with something like 10 other app updates) and still, after the update JUST NOW, it is still the Feb something update :(

darn it. wonder when google will finally push it to my phone? what's taking so long?

Re: Google Messages: Still no Apple emoticon responses yet...

Don't think the app version matters as I have the same as posted above with no iPhone emoji reactions

Re: Google Messages: Still no Apple emoticon responses yet...

Here is the thread you refer to I think. https://forums.androidcentral.com/s...22-ultra/1040994-skinned-google-messages.html Or at least a long one where it has been discussed. Many of us, even like me who is using the latest beta, do not have the setting you refer to yet.

I don't think there has been any definitive reason that some have different settings than others. Other than it is a "server side" thing. That thread discusses the version dates also and does make a little sense of that.

Re: Google Messages: Still no Apple emoticon responses yet...

As discussed in other threads, we don't think the version number has nothing to do with it. It's the Google server side which pushes the features randomly.

Exactly same here not on my S22 Ultra with same version but it's working on my Pixel 6 Pro..

Off topic a bit, but why is there no option to snooze texts on the Samsung version of Messages either? Is that a Pixel only feature?

Hmm I'm not sure now ..I don't see it with Samsung

Plus, it seems the new features aren't pushed all togeher. I have the iPhone reactions, but not the sorting (business, personal) or other new features.
