Skype doesn't ring or light the LED or anything

So, with my daughter in Hungary on a Fulbright (had to get that in there) we are setting up a way to talk without going broke. Skype makes sense and she and I were IMing on it over the weekend. However I never get a ring of any kind, or a LED. I do get a notification in the bar, but it's silent, which isn't real useful. I also tried setting it up on Light Flow but that doesn't do anything at all. Besides, Light Flow seems unstable - there are times when it will sit there and blink continuously for no reason, and the only way to make it stop is uninstall it. Help!

I'm just guessing here but there are some possibilities that came to mind.

First--Were you using Verizon's version of Skype or the "real" one you can download from the play store. The non Verizon version works better.

Second-- Were you on a wifi connection? Skype works very well on wifi not so well on cell.

Third--Does your phone support Skype Since you are in this forum I presume you have a Razr or Maxx Mine works very well with Skype. Spoke to my daughter on video in Paris

As I say, it works, but doesn't notify

There's a major duh. I need to go look at that. It would never occur to me as a developer to default to a silent ringtone! Thanks.

Yeah I didn't think so either. It's kinda cool though for some apps if you still want a notification, but not one that bothers you

I do not see how to select a ringtone in the Skype settings. Only a check box for notification ,notification light and another box for vibrate.

Sorry to bring up something so basic, but are you also sure the system Notifications volume is set correctly? It is possible to set that specific volume to silent, so just check Settings/Sound/Volumes.
