Sleep tracking issues on Galaxy Watch?

Regarding the "awake" state, my watch seems to detect me as being awake very intermittently throughout the night. Now I'm a light sleeper, as you can tell from the attached image from last night, but I'm pretty sure I'm not awake at all the times indicated. Back when I used the Gear S3, it detected me as "motionless" for the bulk of the night. Is this how everyone else's sleep is looking in terms of the awake state?

I am having exactly the same. Gear S3 was lacking details in sleep tracking but was able to kind of correctly show when awake and when not. The galaxy watch (46mm) shows what's in your screenshot. Lot of awake moments and 0 deep sleep. Continuous is on, sleep mode on.

Actually a lot if awake moments is normal. You wake a number of times and do not realize it. Deep sleep is way off which means the other sleep levels are skewed. If you are sleeping well you should hit approximately 20% on deep sleep. Give or take obviously. There are conflicting info on wake times. Some suggest a wake for 1-3 hours at night is normal (steady, not broken). Others say it's bad but more and more it's considered normal. The brief times you see on sleep tracker are normal for this type of tracker and most wrist trackers will show them. You may or may not actually wake briefly at those times but it shouldn't affect how you feel unless you see a huge percentage and actually are waking. This could cause you to wake tired if the other stages are not met.

Same. Only issue I have observed is that S health reports that sleep stages are not tracking due to not being able to obtain a consistent heart rate. Not sure why this is the case as I have had no issues tracking heartrate.

I've gotten this message before and searched to find out I needed to wear the watch a little tighter.

Just got my Galaxy Watch 42mm for Christmas. Have worn it for 2 nights now. Believable REM and Light Sleep numbers, but 0 Deep Sleep, which was concerning me, but now I feel better, because apparently its says that for everyone. Was searching the web for something that would tell me what 'normal' sleep numbers should look like, when I came across this post. I have my Heart Rate sensor on Frequent and it seems to be fine. I read somewhere else that a recent update on the watch made it no longer necessary to have it set to Constant.

The recent update did nothing to correct sleep numbers. It is still very random as to whether it records any deep sleep. And when it does its well below the 20% area the average person should see. After a reboot I saw 11%. That's my max. It normally 0-6% on this phone. It needs work badly. It's my only real issue with the device. If you get sleep as Android it functions properly so it's not the watch hardware.

I've experienced the same as most people here: 0% deep sleep, inaccurate fall asleep and wake times, recording being awake when I wasn't, far fewer hours of recorded sleep than I'd actually had.

However, as @Greymire has noted, with Sleep as Android, it works perfectly. (You have to download the Gear plugin, as well as the app). I've been using the app without a wearable for years. It's an incredible piece of software.

Now, with the watch I get constant heart rate for the whole night, deep sleep, REM, everything. It helps that you activate Sleep as Android manually when you are going to sleep I think. It will then record when you actually sleep.

The only downside to using this method is battery drain. I've seen between 25% to 40% drain in a night which isn't really acceptable.

So now, I power my watch off at night and just use Sleep as Android on my phone to track my sleep. No heart rate, but it's easily enough data for me. Far better than keeping my watch on and getting ridiculous sleep stats.

I am wondering if there are any recent improvements or updates on this sleep tracking. I realize I'm a bit late to this post. I have had my watch (42) for 2 weeks. I love it for the basic talking, messaging etc. The sleep tracking is not working. It tracks either very little sleep or tracks sleep every time I happen to sit at my desk to work or to watch TV etc. Talked to the Samsung guy at BB and he was not aware of this issue. I have used several other smart watches or fitness trackers and even the most basic models tracked sleep accurately. As a new poster I'm not sure where to mention this but the step counter only tracks half of my steps or less. I am wearing my fitbit with this and I am certain it is accurate as I have used it for years and measured it against other devices Garmin, Gear Fits and Polar. BBuy suggested an exchange but I wonder if these issues will continue. I also see 1 say battery life with the settings on low light, not on all the time and other things minimized.

OK, that's not normal. My watch has the same deep sleep issues as everyone else's, but as far as detecting that I am asleep, I've got to say that it has an uncanny accuracy. The other day I fell asleep on the couch for an hour, and it even detected that. Since the update, I have not once had my watch fail to detect a night's sleep. And I've never had it detect that I'm sleeping when I'm at my desk or sitting around at home.

Searched the Internet and came across this thread, as I am having the same issue. I do have a low resting heart rate of around 52 and wondered if this was the cause?

What is the update and how do I get it... OTA via Samsung or the watch or app? Thank you.

I have the same problem with my Watch 46mm. It records as sleep when I'm playing games at the couch. I used gear fit 2 before and never had this problem. Any idea how can I solve this?

Mine was detecting me as asleep when sitting watching telly as well, I have disabled REM sleep recording so will see if that fixes it, as poster TriniteUK I also have quite low BPM when resting, often close to 50 so I was suspecting that to cause it, keeping continous heart rate on for now

Mine is sort of odd. Once it seems to add lying down as sleep, but actual sleep.

Mine is very odd... I thought I was immune to the phantom sleep tracking, but I was reading a book last night, sitting up, and it recorded as sleep. And then very bizarrely it has recorded me being asleep while I was having my hair cut after work this evening.

That's around where my resting heart rate is (at night anyway), and it's still working for me.
