Slimport question

I know the Nexus 7 FHD (2013) uses Slimport to mirror the tablet's image and sound to the television. Now, although Chromecast seems awesome, it can only handle a few things now and I personally use other apps (like Pogoplug and Vulkano) to access and play media on it. Chromecast would be great IF it could just simply mirror the device, but since it can not right now, does it require a Slimport device, which is a brand name, or will any Micro USB to HDMI adapter work?

Also I recommend the app tv portal you have to search it on Google you will thank me later its the best free tv show and movie app ever created with the new nexus 7 and this Slimport adapter you will be good to go

It's not on the market anymore but you can still find it online they have a Facebook page and stuff and the support is great
