Hi Folks - Does your tv need to be a 'smart' TV to use the Slimport connector?

If that were a requirement I imagine it would be spelled out in the documentation. and would be very well known by now.

Already answered in your other post. You don't need to post the same question twice. :)

Sorry about that, it's just I thought the previous post had come to an end, but wasn't sure and went back. I'm new to forums (despite being very silver haired now) & trying to feel my way. Cheers

@ Roguetrader: The Slimport adapter does not require a smart TV to work, or an app or anything else.

There are only 3 reasons why it would fail to work:

1.) faulty Slimport adapter
2.) faulty HDMI cable
3.) faulty HDMI port in the TV

You can rule out two of those by simply trying it with a different HDMI cable (one that's known to work), and by plugging it into a different port.

My guess is that the adapter is defective. Most of the adapters that come out of China are cheap knock-offs manufactured by unscrupulous companies. They have no problem putting the trademarked names on them. They even scan the artwork from authentic packaging and then print identical (knockoff) boxes or packaging.

Analogix is the company that makes Slimport, and they are made in the USA.
.

Many thanks for that - some clarity at last. Must be the Slimport, the other two things are fine. Bought 1 Slimport from China, and the other from e bay in the UK, although they look identical, both are rubbish. I'll try ordering from the States instead (they want $20 to ship, which seems a lot for what it is) - they seem to be impossible to find in the UK. I'll let you know how I get on!

You're welcome. Yeah, a lot of those UK auctions are actually the same Chinese and Hong Kong sellers disguising themselves.

They know that China and Hong Kong have bad reputations for selling junk, so they get multiple eBay accounts and masquerade as sellers from other parts of the world, but especially the UK for some reason.

You can tell by the descriptions in their auctions. They often use the identical wording and images, and even the same misspellings as their Chinese and HK auctions.

Btw, Amazon has the OEM ones in stock again. They're $29.99, but they're authentic and Analogix is the actual seller. It's available as a Prime item.

I managed to buy one of these in the UK from Amazon ?23.99 - a little more expensive than those other two I tried, but guess what? It worked like a dream immediately - thank you very much for pointing me in the right direction.

That's great! Glad to be of help. :-) I bought my Nexus primarily for media use, so I know how you felt.

Hey roguetrader can you please help me I bought the same hdmi cable you earlier posted a pic of on another thread it is also not working for me and please find a solution to this problem..

The solution was already mentioned above. Buy a genuine OEM Slimport made by Analogix. The ones from China and Hong Kong are fake junk.

I posted a link to it in post #7.
