slow 4g speeds

now i'm a noob when it comes to testing out how fast the phone is in technical terms, but i'm just curious what could cause slow speeds?

my phone tends to be decently fast, but recently my download speeds have slowed down massively, even on a 4G network.

Ex. a 5MB app update is taking 3-4 minutes. I'm at work and my signal is constant, so i'm just wondering what could've changed. Last week it may have taken 30 seconds.

Streaming vids on the phone from youtube is super slow as well. No new apps installed, so i'm stumped???
Sprint isn't throttling data speeds are they?

pulled the battery, rebooted, deleted a few apps I don't use anymore....voila.
not sure why it seems to have worked, but the speed is back.
