Slow FOTA for the 45+MB system update

I have a stock EVO 3D. I have tried installing the update several times and have almost given up. The pace of the download is so slow that it would take 100 hours to complete. Sprint instructions suggest setting aside 20 minutes for the download. I have tried both options: Download via any available data connection AND Download via Wi-Fi or cable only. Both are very slow and my progress bar advances only 1 percent per hour. The farthest I went was 9% overnight and into the next day and this was using Wi-Fi only with the device a mere three inches away from my wireless router.

What am I doing wrong or what can I do to improve the download speed? I would love to use the "cable" method if I could find instructions. Can anyone point me in the right direction?

UPDATE
I called Sprint and the rep sent some refresh commands to my phone and I was then able to download and install the update in about 40 minutes.
