Quickly- I had an incredible, thunderbolt, iPhone 4s then the S3 and now the DNA. I have never had such an issue with texting that I do on this phone. The main SMS screen which shows all the thread lists LAGS worst then Battlefield 3 on Xbox. I currently have 10 threads open, and I delete them every 2 or 3 days or so. When I open the app, all I see are phone numbers, no names, then after 5 or 6 seconds the names show up on the top, then the bottom a few seconds later. I did research and found some people clearing the contacts and resyncing them then cancelling the sync and not syncing facebook contacts fixes the issue, but here that is not the case. I have used handcent, go sms facebook messager and most of them including some of the ICS SMS apps up there and they do work, I just don't like them. I like sense, I think the app looks clean and I prefer the icon over hancent- lol.......... Has anyone found this to be a big issue, and can it be fixed?

I was thinking if there was a way to force the phone to not 'close' or 'background' the messages app to free up memory it might work but I really do not know how to do that... any ideas?

Maybe simply clearing the cache would help? You'll do that by going into Settings > Apps > Messages and clearing the cache.

This happens in very rare instances on my phone, ie. if I've just rebooted the phone and its configuring the SIM card. Even then its only hit and miss. I second clearing the cache, and perhaps doing a full reboot of your phone (nonfastboot) to close all running background apps and give you a clean slate. Have you checked your ram useage when you are having this problem? You can do this by going to settings> apps> running. Your ram useage will be displayed in a bar at the top of the page. Was your phone purchased new or used, and has it been running this way since the date of purchase? Last resort, back up your contacts, photos, and anything else you would like to keep, and factory wipe the device. If it continues to act up after that, it seems you would have a dud device and if applicable, I suggest doing a warranty or insurance replacement.

Yeah, this has been an issue with both of my DNA phones. They have done this right out of the box and have continued to have the problem after all the updates. I think it is just Sense 4 being slow. It sucks when you have 50 text messages to respond to and it takes a moment to switch been recipients because a phone number is only visible.

I really think it is an issue with Sense 4. I hope it will be fixed with Sense 5,which has a more Google style holo design, so it should load quicker.

I have never personally had this issue with my DNA or any other phone but i did notice by default the DNA does not have a message limit set to default before it starts deleting old sms. I don't really care for messages older than a week and if you are receiving lots of messages maybe setting a limit of maybe 200 per person from within the setting menu in messages app would help.

IDK, just an idea.

Just started having SMS/MMS issues about 2 weeks ago. Says I have a message, go to Inbox and it shows and highlights the previous message only. The REAL new message doesn't show until it seems to refresh about 1 minute later for some reason. Cleared almost all message out but still happens. Downloaded "SMS Popup" to avoid the issue.

I've had this issue since I got the phone. Its slightly annoying. I think I'll try setting a max thread limit like someone below said. Is the DNA getting upgraded to Sense 5?

I'm sure it will, but not just yet. They (HTC) want to tout this feature to sell their newer HTC One at first. We might see update by June I suspect once they have steady One sales/promotions going strong. Plus, Verizon takes forever to test out new updates before approving them.

I've seen this issue on the OG RAZR and the DNA. I think the RAZR's issue was the update to ICS, then JB. On the DNA, I think it has something to do with the way HTC changed multi-tasking to help their phones handle Sense. Apps still run on the background, but only a minimum amount of data is kept open for each app to conserve resources for Sense's framework. I could be wrong, but I believe that's what I heard. If I am, someone will probably point it out.

Different people run lots of different apps. I know i've got a ton of widgets, and data up and down all the time, and not every DNA is the same. i.e. SIM issue, overclocking capabilities, etc.
