Slow phone charging issue

I purchased a Moto Z2 Play yesterday. I plugged it in last night using the supplied power brick, a USB 3.0 extension cable, and the supplied USB to USB C cable. After ~5 hours on the charger, I did not get a full charge. It went from about 35% to about 85%. Surely, this is not normal, correct?

I had been using the exact same extension cable with my previous phone (an iPhone 7 Plus) and it never impacted charge times. Any ideas?

Well first eliminate the extension and try charging it without and see if there's any difference.

I eliminated a phone hardware issue because the phone charges fine on other charger cable combos. I will try a few other combos of the original charge and cable and also use the extension with a charge I know works with the phone.

Is there a good app or somewhere in the settings I can monitor charge rates so I don't have to repeatedly deplete my phone and charge it to test this?

You may also want to check the specs on that supplied power brick. You'd be surprised at how many phones are QuickCharge compatible, but come with a slower, non-QuickCharge power brick. The new iPhone X is one example. $1000+ phone and you have to pay $74 extra to get the QuickCharge they advertise.

The charger that came with my phone was not capable of giving my phone a quick charge. It was VERY slow. Swapped out the charger on day 1 after checking the specs in the small print on the charger. Starting at 35% charge, it takes 10+ hours to charge that phone using the supplied charger, but only 1-1/2 hours using the separate charger I bought for it.
