Slow SD card access on android 11

Hi, ever since my phone was updated to android 11, accessing files in the sd card has become really slow. I have thousands of photos and image files in my sd card and loading them everytime was a pain in the arse no matter what gallery app I use. I know that this is a common issue with the update related to the new file system or whatnot, but I still hasn't found a proper solution to it. So I'm thinking of buying a new phone with newer, better hardware but,.... would that give me some clear performance upgrade or will sd card access still sucks?
Btw, I'm using Realme 6 now.

Thanks....

Welcome to Android Central! Can you copy some of those photos to another card and test that? If it accesses much faster, then consider backing up all of the data on your main card, then reformat it, and copy all of the data back. I realize it might take a while, but it may be worth a try. Or upgrade to a faster card.

Normally, the next step would be to wipe the cache partition, but it looks like that's not possible from that phone's recovery mode: https://www.hardreset.info/devices/realme/realme-6/. Factory reset may be your only other option, but there would still be no guarantee it would help.

Yeah, And I always reluctant to do factory reset. Going back to android 10 would probably solve the external storage problem but, I'll also loose the benefits from 11, like security and stuff.

So I was thinking if a new phone with faster cpu/ram would give me better read/write performance even on android 11/12 than my current phone. It's just that I'm not sure if the performance gain would worth the upgrade

It'd be best to get a phone with a lot of internal storage, to make the SD card irrelevant. Internal storage will always be much faster and more reliable than a card.
