Sluggish performance improved with Pie?

Many reviews mention sluggish performance, possibly because it was not optimized well for Oreo. How is it non that Pie is available? If it's not improved seems like I might be better off with a 6.1 which supposedly performed better than 7.1 with Oreo despite lesser specs.

Pie has been available for months. Works great. When I borrow a 7.1 it gets the occasional stutter, but not more so then any other device I have tried.
