Has anyone used Smart Switch to set up a new device? Is anyone planning to use it to set up their Flip 5? Why or why not are you going this route?

I used smart switch to set up my flip 5 from a S20 FE 5G. very easy. had both phones side by side, followed the on screen instructions went smooth as slink . Just like iPhones. I did Bluetooth which probably took a little longer since the USB port on the S20 has been a little wonky lately. I went for ease of transfer. I also use smart switch to back up the phone to laptop as well. You will need to log back in to most apps but surprisingly a lot of my older apps transferred over with no loss of data first time this happened. I have a solitaire game that goes back to my S8 and usually I have to start from zero each new phone this time it just transferred . I have found on my laptop if I allow the app to update it disappears on the PC. Overall the easiest upgrade I can recall .

Good Luck

I used Smart Switch to go from my S10e to my Flip 3, then from my F3 to my Flip 4, and will use it for my Flip 5 when it comes. Very easy. I recommend using the cable connection. Just insert the cable in both phones, open Smart Switch in both, and follow the easy on screen directions. Smart Switch will copy all of your data, apps, settings, texts, photos, etc. Even your home screen (s) set up, your wallpaper, even such things as internet bookmarks that you may have on your home screen. It takes a little while for it to copy everything, but just wait until it tells you that it's done.

I've used a couple of times but not anymore. I prefer to start clean and re-install just what I need. I do use SmartSwitch to back up everything to a USB and then store it on my server.

Thanks for the info. I got my Flip 5 today and it was really simple to transfer everything with smart switch.

I used Smart Switch last night to transfer everything, but initially had issues. Couldn't get the phones to connect via WiFi (I believe that it was my error connecting one of the phones to the WiFi)), so tried the Samsung supplied cable, but it too didn't want to connect. I reversed one end of the cable (turned it over) and it then connected. I suspect a faulty cable from Samsung. Bottom Line: We are up and running.

Where do you get the PC version? I run Windows 11 and didn't see it in the app store.
Smart switch PC back up your video and gallery (whole phone ), Samsung cloud doesn't do this so it be this way /Google photos/Microsoft one drive.

Can restore from Smart Switch PC multiple backups at any point

Smart Switch is the way to go on switching devices. I've used it since it came out.
I've never used it... but I seem to hear mostly good feedback about it... and if it restores text messages I'd be a very happy camper 😃

Yes, it does transfer your text messages (it will ask how many you want restored: 6 mos, 1 yr, 2 yrs, etc.) during the process. Note that when it is done the transfer and tells you to unplug, it is NOT finished. Depending on how much info and how many apps you are transferring, it can take an hour or more to set up everything that it transferred for you (some of your app icons will be grayed out until it is finished). It will tell you when the set up is done. Patience!

Thanks that's very good to know 😀 way better than learning the hard way 😉

I’ve used Smart Switch before, and it’s pretty easy to set up a new device, especially if you're switching between Samsung phones. For the Flip 5, it should work fine to move apps, contacts, and settings. If you’re on a Mac, you could use MacDroid to transfer files directly instead.
