SmartSwitch: useful hints and guidance to avoid issues?

That is possible, use Smart switch on pc to back up everything

But I don't want Smart Switch to do contacts. Can I NOT do contacts but do everything else?

Last time I used computer it was everything or nothing.

You should be able to click on boxes you choose

Prior to transferring your data using Smart Switch, do not use the OOBE wizard's option to transfer data from your old device. That's Google's restore mechanism and it didn't capture everything to begin with, so it obviously can't restore everything, either. Not to mention, Smartswitch can transfer all apps and data from Samsung apps (think Samsung Notes and Samsung Health), even sideloaded ones (and Google will not even list those.)

Update Smart Switch on both devices prior to starting.

I've had issues using SmartSwitch with a computer. Not everything always transfers over. Using the cable is the only failsafe way in my opinion.

Agreed. Use the cable, don't use wifi and you'll be fine.

can I just use the phone cord and plug in each end to each phone?
