SmartThings play TV Sound on phone

I just got the new S24+ and a new UN55DU8000 Samsung TV. I had a Note 10 which got bricked by that SmartThings update and the Play TV Sound on Phone worked fine with it all this time. Now I don't even get that option anymore. I reinstalled the app, the TV and the S24+ on the TV several times with no change. What am I missing here?

That's because the way things work in the newer OS versions has the audio option elsewhere. You can still mirror your screen to a TV via Smart View, BUT to play audio through the phone and not the TV, you have to go to the Media Output option, where you can select where the audio will play (and even select different audio outputs for different apps if enough receivers are connected to the phone).

I checked this out and it will not play the current TV Sound on the phone. It just brings up a screen on the TV. I could not find anything that would make this work

Is this the Media Output screen? If so, whatever is playing should display all the audio options on your phone (TV, Phone, Headphones...). I just tried it on mine and 2 different TVs. All work just fine and can play a video on the TV while the audio comes out of my phone.

I meant watching TV programming and play the sound on my phone like before with my old equipment.

Ah! My bad. I tried mirroring the TV to my phone and while there are no further options given, I do hear audio from the TV on both TV and phone. Media Output still allows me to play that sound through the phone or my connected headphones.

That was my point. I do not have any option to mirror FROM the TV to the phone. Only the other way. And this was set up on a brand new TV and brand new phone.

If this is a new TV make sure it supports mirroring (it's a VERY underused feature and Samsung removed it from a lot of their offerings). If it does support it, then go to your phone's Settings and find Smart View. There, scroll all the way down and tap the Other device -> Phone section. If the TV supports mirroring and it's within WiFi range, it should show up as an option to connect there.

So the Smart View part works from Phone to TV "Phone -- Other Device".
But when I go to the bottom and select "Other Device -- Phone", the TV is not found.

Is the TV connected to WiFi and signed into your Samsung Account? (I don't think the last part matters, however) Is the phone in the same WiFi network with no proxies or VPNs that might be blocking traffic/connection? Is Mirroring enabled/supported on your new TV (the last part is, obviously, important. Like I said, the feature isn't used enough for Samsung to warrant keeping it on most models now).

Yes signed in to the Samsung account and everything on the same network and no VPN. Like I said, the phone to TV works fine but not the opposite way. If you Google Smart View and read the Samsung web site stuff, it never mentions whether certain models don't support this. When going to the Other Devices to Phone it finds the Neighbors LG TV, but not mine. I have a UN55DU8000 2024 model.

Not sure what would be the issue here other than thinking your specific model doesn't support mirroring from the TV to the phone. I tried it on an older model that did have it, and I even found the option you're 'missing' (Play TV sound on phone) but in the SmartThings app. The below instructions for that app and for SmartView all work for me for mirroring TV to phone. Does it work with another Samsung device or can you try resetting the network connection on the TV and re-connect to the same WiFi the phone is on?
