I am confused about using speech to text on my Samsung s10+. I searched a few forums and it basically says use the microphone but into the keyboard within SMS. Apparently the system then convers audio to text while speaking. However, when I hold the microphone icon and speak, within the texting app, it creates an audio file that is sent to the message recipient. Is there a way to set this up as converting speech to text?

I am using android ver 11.

Thanks
D.

Welcome to Android Central! You're tapping the wrong mic icon. Don't tap the mic icon that's in the messaging app's text entry field -- that's the one to record a audio file to send. You need to tap the mic icon in the keyboard layout itself. Do you see one?
