oookay.
i've had my Hero for about 3 weeks now, i love it! suuuch a nice change from the rumor, lol.
anyway, i have the same problem-
usually sending or receiving an SMS by 2 or (maybe!) 3 contacts will separate and work just fine but eventually (whether its sending or receiving) the SMS for different contacts will all start to group into the first thread of those 2 or 3 contacts.
it sucks!! i hate having to press on each individual SMS to click "Send SMS ###-###-####" so my texts even go to the right person! so far i've found thats the only way to make sure. before i even figured that out, there was all kinds of texts going all over the place! its just a pain especially since it starts off working fine.
I havent tried using Handcent or Chomp yet, I was really hoping there would just be a fix to this bug so I could save as much space on my phone as possible.
i also get SMS from BoA but after reading this whole thread i turned them off. my texts still arent separating correctly but i havent even turned the phone off yet. i think i'll take the battery out and do a basic self reset like that and see what happens even though i doubt it will fix anything.
the previous posters are correct though, if i dont delete the BoA SMS all following incoming SMS come in under BoA as well. (then i have to reply to those the same way i said earlier too so i dont reply to BoA).
as for sending/receiving SMS, actually just the other day i was texting all day and it didnt completely occur to me that i hadn't received a reply that entire day until the next day lol. not very many calls too. turns out i could text out and call out, but wasnt receiving any SMS at all, couldnt send MMS, and wasn't receiving quite a few phone calls either. After already updating my firmware, prl, profile, and doing everything else I could think of I took my phone back to the Sprint store and the guy just took the battery out and restarted and it was fixed. Yeah i felt lame.
Anyways, any help with problem would be GREATLY appreciated.
