SMS out of order after RESTORE by LG Backup & restore

This is about the only instance that LG Backup & restore doesn't do the job - but I think it may be more to do with the default messaging app.
The problem is conversations from prior years show up on top. It ignores the year.

Is Google Messenger is an alternative to LG messaging app - in other words you could have both installed or go back to the LG messaging and the underlying data doesn't change? Since after using LG Backup & restore the sort data is a little off so I wanted to try a different app. A conversation from 2/1/2015 shows up at the top (newer) than a 1/31/2016 conversation for example.

I've used SMS Backup and Restore for text messages countless times and it's never failed to restore a backup properly.

You might be able to get your threads reordered properly with it. Worth a shot anyways.

That's the app that I used. I even paid for it, and now they removed the paid version and it's free! I'll be moving to a new G4 tomorrow (T-Mobile replacement) so will give that a try.

Edit - I tried Google Messenger and still the wrong order. But only a handful of contacts. I think SMS has a problem going back 12 months - dates sorting correctly. If I have a contact conversation, most recent 3/20/2015, that will show up on top, after restoring.
