NOTE: this is mainly for TXT, not calls

I have been reading for a few hours already, on here and other sites. A lot of stuff I found was old posts too. So maybe some new options have come to light recently.

I decided to post here in ROMS/hacks since this is considered a "workaround".

My problem is I have no bars at my new house, I looked into antenna boosters and they are super expensive. Then I found out about sprint airwave, then found out is is NO LONGER AVAILABLE from what I read, but they do advertise it on the sprint site..... so maybe not

AIRAVE

If worst comes to worst I will try getting one of these on on the web and activating the service AFTER I try talking sprint into giving me one for free =) (crosses fingers)

BUT.. I was wondering since there's new apps/hacks for ROOTED phones maybe there is an app that can use WIFI wince i have a wireless router at my house. I mainly need it for texting cause i dont talk on the phone alot. I read that GOOGLE VOICE kinda of makes a fake phone number for you to use, but it does not work too great and can take some time.

I keep having to put my phone in airplane mode, and turn it back on to get half of the first bar, its ridiculous. Also... if you are roaming is there extra charge for sending txt messages? I have never actually been on roaming before cause I always set it to SPRINT ONLY.

please help give me some ideas! thanks!

If you know what carrier someone is on, you can send them a text from your email.

For example, to text someone on Sprint, you would send to the person's phone number @messaging.sprintpcs.com

Here is a list of carrier's text by email addresses.

yes im aware of that one, but pretty impractical honestly.

I used to do that from my old old old treo 650 sometimes and alot of time I could determine what carrier they had because of the type of phone number. But now they port your # and change it to carriers, so other than asking everybody what carrier they have and keeping a list and legend on hand..... its pretty unrealistic.

My uncle has a blackberry and i HAVE to text him that way, it is SOOOOO ANNOYING, i hate blackberries, i dont know why anybody likes those.

anyways, sorry. But yes i would be looking for a more efficient way. I cant believe nobody has made an app that does this for you. I ahve seen things similar for iphone already. To make the ipod and ipod touch send things. Also hacks for the android tablets to make calls and txt.

EDIT: GOT IT ! ignore the below stuff., need to figure it all out now.

ive been trying to install it but it wont.

I cant get it on the market because I have no reception....

And i go to m.google.com/voice on the phone and it says "GOOGLE VOICE IS NOT AVAILABLE ON MOBILE DEVICES"

then i go to PC and click SEND TO PHONE and it send me the direct link... m.google.com/voice?dc=mgc_vol

but as soon as you go there, it says same thing

"GOOGLE VOICE IS NOT AVAILABLE ON MOBILE DEVICES"

If you have bad reception, youre eligible for a free airave.

Call sprint, tell them you dont have service, tell them your area, they will check the service in your area and if you get no reception for real they will send you one.

More then one person has had success stories about it on these forums.

nope i have full wifi bars, and market does not work over wifi.

How does the phone know to use wifi instead? maybe I have some option disables. If it matters im using myn warm 2.2 RSL4 rom.

and yes If i can not find an easier solution, then I will be trying to get an airave.

It sucks cause i use my phone alot here and at work... and my work building is all tin and sheet metal and aluminum and crap so i get no reception there either lol.

UPDATE:
well im using this app called RemoteSMS basically its linking the phone to the Pc with WIFI.. and you type a text on your computer. So when you hit SEND.. it sends a copy of your TXT to the phone with WIFI, and i guess is sending the actual TXT to the other phone with the internet. (the phone connects with wifi and you are instructed to go to a URL on your browser with the matching port # to be secure)

I use google voice more than my stock mms application for texting, i don't have much bars at my house either cuz then i'd be drunk all day but i do have the wifis available and i must say, i never miss a text :)

Also you can access texts through www.google.com/voice and so if ur home and by a computer or using one, u can recieve texts through the site and it comes up the moment gVoice recieves it! (quicker than the phone recieves it) =)

Goodluck!

I need help! I have no service at my house, and i have an htc evo with cricket service, i switched it over. How can I get my phone to have wifi it wont pick it up.
