I go into a corp. Verizon store today thinking that they would have a Moto Droid 3 to look at (I was mistaken, thought it came out this week, but no it's next week). Well, I got to talking with a rep. and started talking about the Bionic and of course thats what he's waiting for as well. Then he tells me how when it comes out I'm going to HAVE to SWITCH MY PLAN! I tell him that no the data plan is the same for 3G and 4G and I'm granfathered into Unlimited. He says that they're different because of the Sim card! Of course I tell him that the Sim card doesn't matter because you would have it before the switch was made. He of course tried to sell me an Iphone because if I get it, the 3G plan will stay Unlimited. I LAUGH and leave it at that!
So after I leave the store, I call 611 to find out the truth, and was told by them I AM G.F. IN TO THE UNLIMITED PLAN WHEN I GET A 4G PHONE.:D The also wanted the rep.s name and store location to report him to his supervisor.
Long story short (HAHA) it was put on my account that i had the conversation and all is good! The rep. on the phone also said they can't change the data plan from unlimited to 2 gigs when switching(?). Don't know how that is, but that's what he said!

you are in for a surprise

its obvious that the people that work in the store aren't on the same level as people that work over the phone....Bionic is just a matter of time folks. I will be the 17th person to put my preorder in for this phone! Man I can't wait.

I am just curious what you mean by this and how you came across the evidence to come to that conclusion.

My own personal experience recently I spoke to three separate reps in three different departments (transferring a pre-paid VZW to my F&F plan) and all three agreed with my current plan grandfathering me into the 4G bionic, and two of theme were going to do the same thing.

Not working people up my friend. Just letting everyone know of a situation that arose in my small meaningless life. Sorry Ship, I'll check with you next time I post...
To all else who care- Customer Service assured me that we would be safely grandfathered if you already had a $29.99 data plan.

Thanx for the heads up. Now we'll know how to handle it if some less than informed VZW associate tries to take our Unlimited away.

Don't worry, it is a good story to point out that in store Customer Service people may give someone the wrong information which could end up costing people a lot of money. We may know all this stuff, but our friends and family may not. My mom would just believe a rep if they told her that so it is something to look out for.

This is happening quite a bit. I have been running into threads just like this at multiple forums since the Droid 3 was released. I don't understand how Verizon reps at the store can be so misinformed when I can easily go online, upgrade my phone from a 3g to 4g and keep my unlimited. It's like they were told to lie to our faces.

It's because they are told to try and get people to the new plans for the overage charges of unsuspecting customers.

It's obviously going beyond unsuspecting customers. OP went in knowing all the real information and rep either straight out lied or had no idea what he was talking about. I was going to buy it in the store just to avoid activation and have my contacts moved easily, but now I might buy it online just to avoid the hassle of attempting to be fooled. (Plus getting it a week early doesn't hurt either)

Walking into store with this email response I got from VZW online when I get my bionic. Nuff said.

Dear James (last name removed for protection),

Good morning Mr. XXXX. I can understand your concern. My name is Dana and I am eager to clear up any confusion. I am delighted to inform you that your existing unlimited data plans for each of your lines of service will not be changed and you can retain it, even if you upgrade from your Blackberry Storm 2 to a new Smartphone, such a the Motorola Droid Bionic . The new data plan pricing, which has not been officially released and cannot be commented on until an official announcement has been made from Verizon Wireless, applies to new lines of service only and existing lines upgrading from feature phones/multimedia devices to Smartphones. I know waiting on a device can seem like forever. I wish I had a date to provide however we do not like to raise expectations that may not be met. You may also receive free e-mail updates as to when new products and services are available. It really amazes me that some of the reps at the stores are that clueless about the policies of the company they are selling phones for. I can understand them trying to get people to sign up for the tiered plans, but them not even knowing its possible to keep unlimited data is just sad.

its obvious that the people that work in the store aren't on the same level as people that work over the phone....Bionic is just a matter of time folks. I will be the 17th person to put my preorder in for this phone! Man I can't wait.

Wrong.

I have worked at multiple levels of Verizon Corp. and that statement couldn't be any more wrong. The average tenure of a call center rep is 6 MONTHS. Most corp stores I have worked in average tenure around 3 or 4 years. The reason for the confusion on this issue is that training assignments from a few weeks ago said you WOULD NOT KEEP UNLIMITED WHEN UPGRADING FROM 3G TO 4G. Now. this has been corrected and cleared up to all channels, if you have a 3G unlimited data plan (on any smartphone device) you will keep it whether you go to 3G or 4G.

Also, when it comes to customer care call center reps... we are beginning to shut down corp call centers to save money and are contracting out. Prepare to have even less helpful call center reps.
