so hard to say goodbye bionic!

It's not going to affect the overall sales. I just read an article saying Moto has been developing their own LTE chip rather than using Qualcomm's like everyone else. This is the main reason for the later launch. I, for one, definitely prefer this if it can get stronger 4G signals and not drop it as much as the Qualcomm. Here I get anywhere between 3MB-9MB. It fluctuates so much.

It could. A lot of companies rely on initaly push numbers. the iPhone sold 1.7 million units the first weekend. Why would Motorola launch a device when everyone is about to go on vacation (I know not everyone but a lot of people) when they can launch it the week before or better, the week after when everyone comes back and have a powerful initial sale to boast in their profits.

Strategy is important here...

I'm officially saying "bye-bye" to the Bionic. Even if the GSII hits with 3G I'll probably buy that because it's likely to hit in August. Either way, I'll most likely sell it for the Nexus Prime. I hope that can be a phone I keep for more than a year.

Goodbye, Bionic. It was nice lusting after you for 8 months.

This is pretty much where I stand. I was set to get a 4G phone no matter what (even though my area doesn't get it for at least year) because I have always been a 2-year phone kind of guy. With the GS2 so close now, I'll just have to get it now regardless of 4G and break my 2-year phone rule when 4G hits my area.

I don't know if I'm ready to completely give up on the Bionic yet, but a September release date greatly decreases the chances of me getting it, especially if the Nexus Prime holds true to the October release date. There's no way I'm going to spend the money on the Bionic knowing the Prime is right around the corner. Unless the Prime doesn't have a notification LED, in which case the Bionic is still a contender. In any case, I'm still disappointed.

i really doubt the Prime will be released in Oct. if Oct holds true, it will probably be formally announced, and then released in Nov or Dec.

no way am i giving up on the Bionic! it still has the potential of being a dang fine device. but, because of when it's being released, it may not be head and shoulders above the rest. in fact, it may just be on par with other devices, and potentially lagging behind in tech for devices coming out very shortly.

regardless, i'm going to give it a very hard look, and see what it holds in comparison to other devices, as well as whether we have any more solid info on the Prime. but, i'm certainly not going to be pre-ordering or racing out to buy it on release date. this will definitely be a wait-and-see purchase.

I had waited a long time for this device. and with the Sept release. I said goodbye. I would have gotten the Bionic in Aug, but Sept is too close to a few months away from a Nexus. And we haven't even seen the iPhone 5 yet. So the thunderbolt will hold me until a Nexus. Sorry moto, you messed up

Dead forum is dead.

Anyway, on topic, I'm surprised everything keeps getting "pushed back".

I would have thought Verizon would have made sure they had a superphone release just in time for back to school. I know we might see the SGS2 in August, but that's by no means confirmed.

It just seems like they're missing out on a big sales push opportunity.

^haha yea and everyone is going to lust after the next phone for another 8 months. People need to stop being so impatient. Been in these forums for a while now and every phone that comes out people just ***** and moan about how long it's taking to get a phone out. And then always say Oh,..I'm good moving on to the next phone to come out. Do you want a ****ty product or a good product? Release date's are made up and then magically become the date the phone is coming out. Specs are made up. I personally am getting this phone no matter how long it takes to come out. There will always be another better phone coming out. It's technology it advances every day and thank god for that. Why not just get this phone and then get excited 2 years from now when even newer and better phones will be out? I swear some people on here will have the same phone for 4 yrs because they are to afraid to buy a new phone b/c it will be old in a month. And if im not mistaken,.. isn't dual-core a requirement for ICS? I'm pretty sure this phone will get upgraded to it at some point why wait even longer?

My big gripe with this is I'm just tired of waiting. I very much would like access to Google Plus and Google Music from my mobile, which is impossible with my phone at the moment, but I'm not going to jump and get the first Android device I can find just to have one. I'm willing to wait around for a killer device, but the more things get pushed back the more angry I become. My fear with the Bionic is that I'll get it, but something even better will be released very shortly after it, thus making me kick myself for jumping the gun. Thus is my dilemma with the Bionic and the Prime. I'd certainly like to get the Bionic, but if I do and the Nexus Prime comes out a week later I'll be very unhappy. Of course, I'm sure the Bionic would eventually get ICS so that's a non-issue for me. And I don't know if the Prime hardware will be so significantly better than that of the Bionic that I'll hate myself for not waiting. So I don't know. Maybe the Bionic isn't a lost cause after all.

Ahem. Don't you call waiting 8 months for a phone "patience"? I guess you don't. I'm gonna piss and moan all I want. So instead of waiting another month, I'm gonna get a phone that looks better than whatever Motorola will spit out...just another Photon or something with a locked bootloader.

And no, ICS does not require dual-core because how would the current Nexus S run it?

I think you are wise to wait on the Bionic, however there will ALWAYS be something better a few months down the road. You just have to pick a spot and jump in.

A good fear to have, and most certainly an understandable one.

However right now cell phone and small electronics technology has entered a period of explosive evolution and growth. The regular PC industry has had these spurts too. If you look at Intel/AMD, both are hurting - why.. because this area is where all the growth and excitement is, and they didn't have the chips to catch this wave.

No matter what, you have to resign yourself to the fact that no matter what you buy will be somewhat obsolete in as little as 6 months.

The growth, while fast, has been marked in incremental improvements. The 3 leading chip makers for this generation of computers, TI, Qualcomm, and NVIDIA are more/less neck and neck with each other. Nobody has had the ultimate doomsday "I win" product that the others haven't had an answer to in 3 months.

Also, while yes, I wish my OG Droid was faster, it still holds up pretty well. That is phone has actually endured pretty well and it's still able to do most of what newer phones can do. There are only a couple of things I've tried on my phone I don't do because it slows it down too much. I could probably help that by switching to a lighter weight ROM than Cyanogen.

Really, when compared to PC's, the costs here are fairly minor. I used to dump $2000+ on a new PC every 2-3 years or so. These phones, full retail are what.. $600? You can get a used but better than you current phone for a bit cheaper.

When the Bionic is released every other carrier will have better phones. Even now, its not much better than the DX2 (which is not that great).

The DX2 is not that bad of a phone. Wait a few week till the GB update is released. It will make it better.

While the DX2 is not the top of the line phone, I would say, for the average user it should last them 2 years.

For me it was not enough of an improvement over my DX1, so I didn't jump on that. My DX1 could probably last me another 6 months to a year, but I have an upgrade burning a hole in my pocket, and LTE coming next month, so I want to jump on an LTE phone.

I have 2 lines that I use to get myself an upgrade about every 10 months if I work it right.

How do you know this? It said coming this summer which ends on the 22nd of september. Unless they delay it again Sams club will have it by 9/1

Are you serious? The only fact that exist in all Bionic threads combined is that nobody knows anything. It's all speculation. We just have to wait, or move on.

To me when the Bionic releases every other carrier will have similar phones.

What I dont understand is why MUST the bionic be this amazing, all specs monster to be a phone worth getting? Cuz of the delay? How come it cant just be a great phone for ppl that just like Motorola phones?

The Galaxy S1 line was supposed to be this great phone last year, yet many ppl still got a DX1 on Verizon.

A phone doesnt have to have the best specs, latest specs to be considered a phone worth getting. And the Bionic is not that far off from other phones to be considered....outdated....

If the latest specs meant everything....there wouldnt be so many ppl getting Droid 3's...

If you like or dont like a phone, fine. But just because you, them, or those ppl over there dont like it doesnt mean it wont be a decent, good, great phone.

correcto. There will ALWAYS be people who don't like a device for their own reasons. I think it's safe to say in this day and age that no phone being released is bunk. There all good in their own right but some are more attractive to enthusiast than others.

AC is filled with entusiasts so the bar is set much higher and people have higher expectations than the normal consumer but all in all I don't think any phone is "bad" or not good etc etc.

I've recommended the Bionic to many people (beleive it or not) because it will be a fantastic phone but in here we are all on a whole other playing field so I will have some criticism's at times. I would actually sell the Bionic to anyone in the Verizon store because I see the value of it at the consumer level. Now if one you fellows walked in the door spewing out your knowledge or lack thereof (I KID!! lol) I would direct you to the Prime (assuming it was out) or the GS2 (unlocked and open) perhaps even the Bionic.

I think you get the picture.

uh-oh, Trouble's back... lol!!

good points, both of you. i, too, think the Bionic will be a great device. but, as ive said before, i'm just gonna wait to see the Prime (and maybe gs2) before i do anything. i might still end up with it, but if the Prime comes close to the rumored specs (and comes out before the end of the year on vzw) i'll most likely go with that over the Bionic.

i, too, think the Bionic will be a great device.

I'd probably take the other side of that bet.

So far 2011 has been one failure after another for Motorola and as I've stated in the past I really question whether Motorola has the ability to release an outstanding device. At this point it's like the NFL's worse team winning the Super Bowl the following year - yeah, it can happen but it's not very likely.

Concerning the Bionic, it doesn't matter to me, I've moved on. I bought a used Droid X off of Ebay to lock in Unlimited Data and I'll wait to see what the Nexus Prime has to offer. Concerning the Droid X, it's my first smartphone and I like it a lot. That said, I have refused to upgrade to Gingerbread because Motorola has made such a mess of the upgrade. It's been 10 weeks and they still haven't released an update for Gingerbread - not the track record of a company that's on the top of their game.
