I did this accidentally by putting the USB in the wrong way. I didn't give a lot of pressure at all. It's a hair-thin part of the housing (closest to face of the phone) and you can't even tell without really looking for it. It's not part of the back plate so I can't replace it easily. Should I even care?

It's not like it's hurting anything.

Well if it is just cosmetic, than it is your decision if you should do anything. However, if I were in your shoes and I got a new phone, I'd have it replaced since I don't imagine that is supposed to happen unless you really force it in the wrong way.

Well, I'll have to be careful since it seems that is a very fragile piece of the phone. Although I'll likely be exchanging mine for a different phone, as I'm only getting 4 hours of battery life on a charge, and that is no where near sufficient.

Read through all the battery tips first... How many charge cycles have you gone through? I only got 5 hours the first day, but now I'm getting 12 easily after many charge cycles and utilizing the tips posted by other users.

Yes, I've plugged in this phone more than any other phone I've ever had. It would be great to have an induction type recharger like the Palm, although it wouldn't help when you need to connect to your computer for data. Still, 99% of the time, I'm connecting it just to recharge. Just got my Seidio 1750 battery yesterday, but it's only gone through 2 cycles. I'll see what it's capable of after a few more.

I hate exchanging phones because you have to set everything back up, and a lot of times you end up with a refurb. Now maybe this time you won't because its so new.

Thanks for posting this though. I've not broke mine, but i noticed that it would be really easy to put in the wrong way. The design could have been better. Everytime I plug my phone in, I always find myself double checking which way. Even when I do plug mine in, it still feels tight...almost like forcing..but in the end it does go in.

As a tip, it might be a good idea to put a red dot using a marker or paint pen on the correct side of the plug when its facing you, just so it takes some of the guessing out when you go to plug it in.

Its actually mis-information that one needs to "cycle" a li-ion battery. Li-ion batterys can actually go bad if discharged all the way.

They actually perform better if recharged more often from a partial discharge than if you discharge them all the way and then charge them back up.

Connecting the cord to the phone is a pain in the a$$. To make it a little easier look at the surface of the connector. One side of it is flat and the other side has two raised lines in the middle with pins along both edges. While holding the phone with the screen facing up, it plugs in with the flat side of the connector facing up.
Or.... you could just put a dot on one side

Everytime I plug this phone in I wish it had those metal pins that allow you to just drop it into a dock.

i just always remember to put the smooth side towards the screen.

if you look close at the plug...one side as little hooks that hold the plug in the phone. you can feel them if it is dark.

I don't think it will harm the phone like this so I don't see exchanging it. The phone works well otherwise, and I have insurance if anything else breaks later, so I won't bother. But it really is too fragile for use in that one spot.
