So I picked up a G5

I was using my S7 edge yesterday alongside the G5, and at 70% battery left, I had a SOT of 1 hour, 5 minutes on the S7 edge. At 70% battery on the G5, I had 59 minutes SOT. I couldn't believe how close they were.

I like reading that, I dislike face buttons which is why I picked the G5 over the S7 and my only potential regret was battery life of the S7.

I'm even happier with the selection now, thanks.

I think the UI on the G5 is ugly. I tried downloading the LG Home 4.0 from Android Central's page about it, but SmartWorld always crashes when I try to download it. I also can't find it when I manually search for it.

I never experienced any lag on TouchWiz on my S7 edge. It's the smoothest experience I've ever had with it.

Try Nova, used it on my last 4 phones. I start trying the standard launcher and always end up back on Nova. Plus with backing up my desktop on my Google drive getting my stuff setup on a new phone is a snap.

I guess I'm easy because this is the second phone I've owned where stock launcher works good enough for me and on this phone I don't miss the app drawer. I look at it as a good incentive not to load my phone up with crap apps. You can sort the apps from second screen and up on alpha order so I'm good with it for now.

I didn't mind that part of the launcher and it looks very nice. I disliked the folders in the middle of the screen and how very Apple everything felt.

I've owned the G2 thru the the G5 and the camera on the G4 tied the Sammy 6 as camera phone
Of the year and I believe the G5 dual display camera will beat the Samsung 7.
The fingerprint sensor is one of the best out there and the placement on the back is perfect.
Let's try a drop test on the 2 phones ....
.all that glass it's gonna be ugly..........just sayin

The point is did you really get equal usage time on both the phones? i.e. did the G5 really sustained for 59 mins of usage.

No. I used the G5 more. The biggest battery drain on the G5 has been the cell standby, not the screen.

The people who actually own the phone know how great this phone really is!

DONT BELIEVE THE REVIEWS THAT SAY THE G5 HAS MORE NEGATIVES THAN POSITIVES; if you use it on as a "daily driver" you will see, IT IS ONE OF THE BEST FLAGSHIPS OF 2016!!

Anyway, sorry about your battery issue, i usually get 4 to 4.5 hours SOT, I'm wondering if you play with some settings you could get better performance?

Good luck!!

BTW the best "friend" for the G5 is the "battery coffin" I don't know how much they cost(mine was free), but it is great. You could even use it with your G7!

SmartWorld is where you want to go, you can change the look of the UI completely. Did you try uninstalling/re-installing SmartWorld?

Did you by any chance have an unlocked, non carrier branded phone. It happened to me with two devices. Decided to get a regular t-mobile branded one and voila, best experience yet.

Interesting you went with the G5. I'm sure it's not as bad as all the press it's gotten. But if i were to switch out from my S7, I'd probably try the HTC 10 first. Any reasons for not trying the 10? I also returned the edge initially because of your same reasons. I started in the family and got the S7 which I love.

I don't think the G5 deserves all the hate it's getting. It's not a bad phone at all. I had one for about a month and the only reason I switched to an S7 Edge was because that was the phone I wanted in the first place and it was sold out at the time (and I needed a new phone because my old one had a shattered screen), and because the build quality on the G5 wasn't quite what I expected for the price. Everything else about it was great and I found that extra battery actually really useful. I just wish LG hadn't used that weird "metallic paint" on the body and had just gone with regular metal; I hardly used my G5 and it still had a few tiny scratches on the back. So I don't think it's a bad phone by any means, just that it missed the mark on a couple of things. It had a great feel in hand though, and I actually liked LG's software better than TouchWiz.

Picked up an unlocked G5 for my wife, she is pretty happy and I'm very happy to have a phone for her without carrier bloat. The wide angle camera really is a huge plus, definitely has me hoping for a dual camera Nexus this year or next.

Got my G5 about a month ago and still loving it. Great battery life for mine and my wife's. Have it paired with my Zenwatch 2 and even with it sending those notifications I get a full day on battery. I have seen friends with S6/S7 and neither one are impressive or as good all around as the G5. G5 is definitely the best bang for your buck, and being able to swap batteries is just another plus. I do wish they had left the screen curved like the G4 as it helped with glare better, but the glare on the G5 is no worse than the other 2016 flagship phones. Looking forward to whats in store design wise and battery power in the LG G6! Thanks LG! (but yes, the software skin needs a bit of work still...white menus are fugly and battery wasteful)

LCD displays like the G5 have are not battery wasteful with white like Amoled displays.

If you took a second to step off you're high horse you would realize that battery life is the most important thing to any cellphone. That's why reviewers always focus on it in their tests. Some people unlike yourself may not have access to a computer all day like you or may need to use GPS everyday or just make rely on their phone for their everyday tasks at work. Are you so close minded that you believe no one would need 4-5 hours of screen use out of their phone?

I don't understand comments like this... Why would anyone need more than 3 hours SOT a day? Are you unemployed so have a lot of free time? Facebook addict? I have access to a PC and Internet at home and work so not as dependent on my phone as most people but still if I was using my phone for more than two hours a day I'd kill myself.

Why did you not look into S6 active with a 3500 mah battery it was the hardest phone to kill. Besides the Exonys processors are way better than the snapdragons. I remember everytime I buy something based on reviews from forums like this, it is always a paid promotion. Happened when I swapped my S2 for the skyrocket version, then bought a LG G3, single biggest piece of **** I ever purchased. LG has no quality control, G4 with bootloop issue, the G5 is fugly and the stock android interface looks 20 times better than LG.

Only you can determine what is the most important feature or features for you.....case closed.

As for the battery on this phone, its actually pretty good. When I do run dry, it takes less than 5 seconds to swap to a fresh one....or if I want to top off it charges pretty quickly. The battery life on this phone is really a non issue for most people. If it is an issue the solution is simple....pick something else.

As stated before, if battery is your thing, then this isn't the best device. Heck it isn't even the best if your want the brightest screen out there. Best battery for me S7 edge which is also the best or brightest screen. Love this G5 however and the battery gets more than a full day of use.

I work outside 10 hours a day and I'm spending much of the day answering emails. Three hours SoT is kind of pitiful.
