So...I switched.

After winning a Nexus 6P from Android Central back in late 2015, I couldn't live with the short battery life after almost 2 years of use. So I took advantage of Verizon's deals and got a 128GB Pixel XL. Very impressed so far. Wanted to wait for the Pixel 2, but got this at around 2/3 of what will probably be the 2's price. Loves my 6P and the XL is so close in size, but much snappier. Thanks for all of the fun in the 6P forum.

Curious how you won the 6P?

And in two years when the non-removable battery of the Pixel XL goes kaput?

What other options are there? Other than my 950XL (or most Win phones), and a few Motorola, and a (mostly) failed LG model, removable batteries seem to be going away.
I'm as dismayed as most, but you can see where OEMs are coming from, they don't know where/what the deal is with your aftermarket battery, if it's going to explode, burn up, or just fail after a few weeks, in which case many are also likely to blame them.
If there was an established "channel" for "certified" OEM replacement batteries, or similar, reasonably-priced, and a good way to prevent the knock-offs into the same channel, I bet they'd go back, but I don't see that happening, anytime soon?

My 6P was starting to show a bit of possible battery-age, but since I went to Beta4 of O, it's doing really well again, so that's handy anyway. It's definitely not "snappy" though, but then again I was just setting up an Axon 7 for our daughter, and it was much quicker (for good reasons).

As much as I'd like to have "alternatives" to an Pixel 2 XL (or very similar), I want OEM-level updates and the whole bit, it's the old software/hardware engineer in me, I don't want to get hung-out-to-dry by a random OEM or carrier who decides to stop updating because they're not selling any more of a device...

I was sick of my Nexus 6p battery too. Especially the shutting down at 50%. So today I decided to call to see if they'd replace it (it was getting embarrassing phone shutting off right when I needed it and having to keep it near a plug all day)
They did replace it. With a pixel XL 128. I'm happy.

100% this (except I'm a SysAdmin not an engineer). Which means it's a Pixel or an iPhone for me. I absolutely loathe iOS though so it's really down to the Pixel 2 or Pixel XL 2.

I'm also on Fi so there's really no way I'm moving away from Google.

I am however getting my battery replaced in a few days. Then I'll get the Pixel 2 XL in a month when it comes out.

I think it is sad that most of us have been conditioned that a $600-$1000 electronic device is ready for the landfill in two years.

Yep, mine made it 11.25 months, and Google (purchased through Amazon) kicked me over to Huawei, who basically said they'd probably swap it for a refurb, likely with the same problem, so that's handy.
I was tracking for a Pixel 2, but I'm shopping around now instead. At this point, 2 years (while ridiculous, I agree 110%) seems not so bad. My previous Win phones have been at least 2 years each, now my first Android (phone anyway) is junk at < 1 year, with no viable options.

I had a chance to get a Pixel XL today for $400 bucks but I declined it as he had a brand new Nexus 6p sealed in box never used that he gave me for $150 bucks!! I could not pass that up. I just hope I don't have any battery issues. Keeping my fingers crossed that the battery on this one will be fine. Plus the Nexus 6p and pixel are so close to being the same phone that I just couldn't pass $150 dollars up for a brand new 64g Nexus 6p. Although that pixel was tempting thought at 350 to 400.
