So I thought the Nexus 7 has great battery life..

I've been thoroughly impressed with my battery life on my nexus. Lasts a lot longer than my old iPad by a long shot.

One factor many fail to discuss is how one receives their wifi signal. If you have a basic package with your internet provider, that also means you have very little connection coming, causing any wifi device to have to work even harder to pull that signal, meaning your battery is going to drain a lot quicker.

This is incorrect. The wifi strength is 100% not connected to the "signal" going to your modem. Even if you modem is getting a low decibel rating from your service provider, the router will be unaffected. Also If your router and modem are one in the same it will still be unaffected.

I've been using my nexus 7 for most of the day doing the same sort of stuff as you but my battery life has lasted/lasting for just over 7 and a half hours, so you may have had some programs running in the background without realising

I unplugged my nexus 7 last night and I have my WiFi on and this is at 85% with 12 hours on the battery so I would try preserving it and I forgot I have at&t u-verse and the internet is really fast on this thing

Hi - I'm new to Nexus and apparently I don't know my device too well... does the graph with "1day 4 hours..." mean that is how much time you have LEFT? or how much you have used it?

Mine hasn't made it a full day on a single charge yet, so I'm a little worried. I don't seem to have anything guzzling down battery on its own. The top offenders are: Screen Andriod OS, Tablet Idle, WiFi, and Android System Followed by Google Services. Doesn't seem too out of the ordinary to me.

Also, I have the screen set to standby at 15 seconds, and the screen brightness is at about 25-30% right now. Thoughts?

I get about 4-5 hrs screen time and about 1 full day in between charges. That's including listening to music with the screen off. I think that's about average and I'm very happy with that.

I get about 7-7,5 hours screen on time, all the time wifi browsening, and about 2 days between charges. Not bad.

It all depends on your use.

If you're using to to watch streaming video with screen brightness anywhere above 20%, sure you'll get probably 5 hours on it. watching local video, probably 7 or so. Web browsing is a massive variable because it depends on the size of the site you are trying to load, how often you are actually navigating pages, content on the page, etc. I've seen anywhere between 5 and 9 hours of browsing time depending on content. Listening to music with the screen off? It'll still be playing when you go to bed at night.

Battery life depends *entirely* on how much you are taxing the device. this is true of any device from a battery. Sit a laptop down and leave Word open on it and it'll last for significantly longer than if you use it to watch netflix. This is also why a Kindle's battery can last for months, it doesn't actually have to do anything.

I think stand by time also has something to do with it. Last night I plugged mine in on over 2 days of use on a charge and the screen on time was about 5 and a half hours at 15% left. On days that I've used it more often and thus less stand by time I've seen 9 hours

Now that most of us have year old tablets, I suspect we won't be getting close to 8 hour screen-on battery life due to battery wear.
