So, I've finally played with the S5 for a bit...

Galaxy S4 versus HTC One in New York's Central Park | Android Central

(Incidentally, how many people do you think can tell the difference between a cubic zirconia and a diamond by eye? A Rolex and a knockoff? A $140 shirt and a $40 shirt? An expensive wine and a cheap wine? "Premium feel" is something that is lauded by enthusiasts, but most people are concerned about performance, usability, lack of manufacturing defects, and durability.)

Try giving a woman cubic zirconia instead of a diamond and just tell her, "Hey baby, there's no such thing as premium materials."

Metal is always considered a "premium" material, when compared to plastic. Don't get me wrong, I'm not saying that plastic doesn't have its benefits. However, if you asked a dozen phone newbs which looks like the more expensive phone, the M8 or S5, they're going to say the M8.

Well I for one would tellt eh difference by eye between a real diamond and a fake, a rolex and a fake. Simply because, I know what to look for. Metal is more premium feeling because its more costly to mass-produce, heavier, cooler feeling to the touch. If you want to tell me there is no difference in build quality between an iphone and a s5 your out your mind.

Can't view video at work. Regardless, if someone thinks the S5 is a better looking phone, built with a more premium feel than the M8, that's cool. I'm not someone who gets hung up on other people's cell phone preferences, nor do I care what they think of mine. I just find the idea that there's no such thing as premium material a bit absurd.

The only reason I like the s5 appearance more is simply because the screen looks 10x bigger then the Ones, even when it isn't. That is obviously simply due to the huge bezel + speakers around the screen on the One which I just can't get over.

TouchWiz is easily remedied with Nova prime.... Which makes the S5 much better than the M8...in my opinion

How long does the battery last? My problem with the hardware, which is too bad because I love the removable battery and SD, is the mechanical home button. The difference between using this phone which has a mechanical home button, and the Nexus 5 with the onscreen button, is night and day if I'm listening to Pandora while web surfing and want to keep switching between tasks. I wouldn't want another phone with a mechanical home button. Just my preference.

Just to clarify, there is absolutely such a thing as "premium feel", but I am not sure that this has the same importance to consumers in the mobile phone space as it does to tech enthusiasts. If Samsung made a metal S5, it would bring a set of compromises that would make the experience with the phone objectively worse for many consumers (heavier, decreased antenna performace, fixed battery, loss of wireless charging capability, ?impact on durability). That's why I do not equate materials with "quality", but more a matter of preference.

My biggest gripe with the S5 is why only 16 gb of internal memory. Yet the OS got bigger. Put 3 or 4 games with a big download size on it and your out of room for apps.

My phones have always had cases and screen protectors on them. The reason? because I always sell them when I upgrade and I want them to be in great condition for the sale.
