So who else is getting the Tbolt on a 1 year plan and waiting for next year?

I'm still debating on if I should go with a one year or a two year. I am coming from a Blackberry Curve, so for me, any Android device is a huge upgrade for me. I feel that the Thunderbolt would suffice for two years as far as speed and everything goes. It seems like it has it all. I just don't see how much better phones can get than this even if you have the dual-core. (Other than improved camera, video, and browsing speeds, which browsing speeds on Android seem great anyway).

Also, dropping over $320 for a phone to have it for 10 months seems a little crazy to me. I'm all for being up on the latest technology, but it IS IMPOSSIBLE to be updated on technology.

You could probably sell the phone for at least $320 after 10 mos. So, it's not like you've thrown the money away. You pay the subsidized price when buying on contract, but sell at retail afterwards.

I'm not going to be purchasing through Best Buy.

You will also sell that technology for $300-$400 easily when you look for a new phone.

Do you really think I'd get that much money out of a phone a year from now? I'm doubtful of that.
I'm not being sarcastic at all, by the way. I just don't see how I could get that much out of a phone when it has been out for almost a year. I would most definitely sell it once I'm eligible for my next upgrade.

Absolutely. Consider that it will be a 4G phone and by early 2012 a lot more markets will have LTE so it will be very valuable to a lot of new customers who don't want a contract but are willing to pay $300 for the phone.

Hell, my 14 month old Droid looks like it'll get around $125-$150 on ebay. Even Dinc's are still selling for $300.

You really are misinterpreting the value.

Yeah, I bought my wife a Droid 1 for $175 on Craigs List and that was a lot cheaper than I could find on eBay. Even the Devour which is a Droid 1 Lite is selling for $150 or more on eBay.

Smartphones off contract keep their value (well, except for the Storm).

Yes. Remember, when you sell it, you're selling it to someone who is buying off-contract. If you buy the TBolt off-contract at release, it'll cost you $600-750 (depending on which rumor becomes reality).

Well that's great news then. I have never sold a phone over eBay because I have never had a smartphone except for my Blackberry Curve. I didn't think it would hold its original launch value after almost a year. That's great though, and I appreciate the info. After this, this might make me decide on getting a one-year after all.

I also forgot that eBay customers would be purchasing the phone off-contract, so all of that DOES make sense. Thanks again.

Well, it's not the original launch value after a year. Original launch value will be the $600-750 number. Buying off-contract is very desirable since you're not tied to a contract with the purchase. That's why the value stays up. Except, like WebDevAnalyst said, if you have a Storm. :D I sold my original Storm after 7-mos for $200 on Craigslist, and I thought I got a steal.

Yeah I didn't mean the ORIGINAL launch value when I said that, sorry. I just meant that it would have a high value on it pretty much. Now I'm just ready for the dang thing to come out already.

Unfortunately I'm a tech hoarder. I still have my first laptop with Windows 95 on it. Selling on Ebay is not my plan so full retail or even 1 year is pretty expensive.

I hear ya and sometimes it's good to have a backup phone. I think I'll keep my OG just in case something happens to my Bolt (god forbid).

Hence why I'm not even bother to sell my Storm 1, and planning a dramatic launch of it off of the Peace Bridge and into Lake Erie. Knowing my mistaken decision on that device will be almost evened out with those purchase, I will never sign another 2 year contract.

@eleer in ten months, ebay your phone for $300 assuming it is in good condition and then your next phone is only $20... I buy a new phone almost every six months and it costs me roughly $250 a year and I always have the latest and greatest.

Yeah that's what I was planning on doing. I appreciate the info.
