So Who's Getting It

I doubt the Thunderbolt's bootloader would be locked, HTC is usually laid back with the freedom they allow on their phones. And I think there isn't a single phone from HTC that has a locked bootloader.

Surer they may have some counters in their phones, but I think of it more as HTC trying to make hacking their decvices more interesting.

HTC isn't wide and open by any means but they aren't "locking the bootloader" like Moto was doing. They still have protections built in, but it's not anything as serious.

I like the thunderbolt and will plan to get one if it comes out soon. The later it comes out, the longer it takes to reset the contract, and more options will available to grab my interest.

I have a d1 right now, rooted/rommed of course and it's a great phone but I would rather not ROM my next phone for a while just because I've gotten kind of sick of constantly reloading and applying settings to my phone.

That being said, I definitely want to be able to stream wifi from my phone to a laptop and I do NOT feel I should have to pay for it (because I'm paying for the data already). Do you guys think the option to stream interwebs to the thunderbolt will available as soon as the phone comes out or does it require unlocking the bootloader to gain root access?

The other things that concern me about this phone are:

1. The screen. The EVO phone looks washed out and the incredible looks too saturated. Any idea on what the thunderbolt screen looks like, quality wise?

2. Battery life of course.

3. LTE data plans. Not really worried about it, going to pay it regardless, but definitely do not want data caps.

There's a sweet site called youtube.com that has hundreds of hands on videos of the TB. That's your best bet for that info, cause most people here have not held it yet.

yea and that doesn't help because it doesn't give a true representation of the quality of the screen.

I know not many people have to seen it in person, just stating a concern I have of buying it sight unseen.

Sorry, I mistook the questionmark as you asking a question. :P

I think some of the videos do a fine job of showing the device's "true colors", if you will.

I think I'm in. Just created a forums login in anticipation of buying the Thunderbolt as my first Android device. I just hope the battery life doesn't suck. I won't have 4G in my area yet so I would imagine turning off 4G would help dramatically.

I really want to use the Mobile Hotspot on this, however, it was stated that this feature wont be available at launch. Even if thats unavailable, will i still be able to use it if i gain root?

As soon as we get root, we will have hotspot.

Verizon just probably hasn't made a decision on what to charge for it, so they just wont be giving it out yet.

I was Dead Set on the Samsung but after reading more and more negative comments on their support I started eyeing the Bionic and T-bolt with more lean towards the Bionic because of Larger Battery capacity, nicer screen(is that really true?). But a locked bootloader sounds like a big limitation and the whole reason I am coming to Android is for FREEDOM. One question though, HTC vs Motorola who is known for better performing hardware? IE: better singal DB, GPS accuracy and speed, real word camera image quality etc? I think the HTC is a strong contender for me especially since I wont have to wait a few more months.

will deff bee getting this no need for a dual core phone when the OS isnt even made for that and the OS that is made for that is specifically made for tablets i love the TBOLT its a great phone

You see the info that 2.3 has optimizations for dual-core phones?

whoooo my first post.

Deffinetly plan on getting the Thunderbolt as soon as I can, since I've got an upgrade coming in less than a month I believe. Gotta upgrade from this damn LG Voyager *puke*

I know your pain, I've got a Voyager paper-weight too. Been waiting for this phone since my contract expired last October!

Since I originally posted this and it got stuck at the bottom of the page where noone seems to have seen it I will try again lol.

oh man, I keep flip-floppin more than John Kerry between this and the iPhone...I know specs wise, this probably wins hands down....display, battery life & apps are what's drawing me to the iPhone....I think my plan of action will be to order the iPhone, play with it and keep my fingers crossed that the T-bolt arrives within the 14-day return period... I'll then go to the Verizon store and if I'm totally blown away, I will switch.

If I were you I'd wait, atleast until pricing is announcing for data paks for the TB. That truly is the biggest issue (for me atleast), and once I find that out, my decision will be so much easier.

Same here, my plan is wait for the TB. If data cost more even though im on unlimited, then i will wait and see when the droid X2 is coming. If that takes too long, then i guess i'll go iphone.
