So whose getting one of these?

Ha Ha, I see what you mean but fortunately I don't live or work under studio lights.

I bit the bullet and pre-ordered one so we'll see how it goes I realised that no FPS won't bother me too much as my current Tablet doesn't have one so pin or pattern as a backup to the face/iris is no real loss for me.

The only annoying thing for me is when I get the tablet at the weekend I'll have to wait for up to 30 days for Samsung to send the free keyboard case after making a claim, which would mean a naked tablet for a month
:-\

A naked ALL GLASS tablet for a month! Here is one thing I have done to protect some fragile gear: You can put gaffers tape on the back and edges. It's similar to duck tape but isn't supposed to leave any residue. You can put more than one layer or apply cushioning tape over it. I've also put strips of tape on the back of equipment that is too slippery. In some ways it's better than a case. Of course I am not very "fashion conscious!

I purchase a Samsung Tab S4 about a week ago..Coming from the tab2 what a difference. The design is about the same as all the other Samsung tablets but the difference is inside..This thing is fast and the battery life is unreal..I personally think you should spend some time going thru the setting because some thing have been moved. Took me awhile to find the permissions setting to make changes.(Dont forget to check the 3 dots on upper right side of screen) Also I couldn't get the face recognition to work right because it kept using a pin first that I set up on security. Now FYI..if you are using a different UI like Nova are another launcher make sure to turn off screen lock in your launcher are the face recognition will not work properly. (That's when you go to Nova under advance and turn off screen lock) After that the face recognition should work great. Now I haven't tried the DeX thing yet still waiting on keyboard from Samsung. The stylus pen works great I had no problem using..Going to hook up a mouse to this thing and check it out. I will give updates after going thru this big bad boy once I get all my accessories.. My opinion Samsung done a great job with this one and would highly recommend .Also no need for download different keyboard Samsung has added some new keyboard options. 👍

Got one. Gave my beloved Tab S3 to a family member. I generally like the S4 a lot, but not quite used to the form factor yet. It's tall in portrait mode, which makes it more difficult to handle when using it in that mode. Like it better in landscape mode, as I like the shorter profile and wider screen. Samsung has tried to strike a balance between laptop and tablet, and I think it is closer that the ipad pro or Surface Go. I have both of the latter and really like the Surface as a Macbook replacement, but it's not quite there as my go-to tablet. The ipad Pro just doesn't cut it anymore. Too much of an app repository rather than a practical, functional device. IMHO, Samsung is leaps ahead of Apple in the tablet space.

For those that did get it... does anyone have the DirecTV NOW app? Does it work in DeX? I know YouTube does and Netflix should, but curious about the DTV one. I know it doesn't allow you to use it in native split mode or floating window on 'normal' mode (unless you force it, but even then it tends to bug out).

The aspect ratio does not work for me at all. I've had both the original Tab S1 with identical dimensions to this one and the Tab S3, and other than video, 4:3 is so much better for what I do with my tablet and so much more balanced across both dimensions.

Had it been 10.5" and 4:3 I think I would have upgraded... once price dropped.

set up my sprint Tab S4 last night,I must say I am impressed
I was at BB yesterday picking up a case for my iPad and I checked out the Tab S4... it was alot more compact and slim than it looks in the pictures on the web. At least to my eyes...

Didnt get to play with it too much cause there was a small crowd around the area that had it on display but from what I could tell it was pretty smooth and responsive in the Android interface.

I did get to hold it for a second or two and it was much lighter than the 12.9" ipad I've been using...

And that OLED screen was great too!!

I have to say, I was impressed too!!

Had the opportunity to check both the new iPad Pro 11 and the Tab S4 this weekend and to be honest, the S4 is hugely disappointing. It's noticeably smaller than the iPad, despite that it weighs more, and performance is light years behind the Apple's product (and judging by benchmarks battery life is worse too!). I don't know if it's the stupid glass back adding to the weight of the tablet but those are the facts.

What on Earth is Samsung doing? I understand that there's not that much they can do in terms of software ecosystem, but they've fallen behind horribly in hardware specs too! It's so frustrating that Android tablets are not competitive. If I didn't hate iOS and Apple's restrictions with a passion I have no doubt I would have bought the iPad right there and then.

I can relate to a lot of that... that’s why I picked up a 256GB 11” iPad Pro in Silver (WiFi only) on launch day. “IOS and Apples restrictions” don’t bother me that much but I do wish IOS was more customizable like Android. But for me at least, it’s not a deal breaker. So far, loving the new Pro!!

BTW... have you considered the new Pixel Slate? You can really max out on specs with that thing in higher end configurations and it looks like a real beast if you do... much more powerful than the tab S4 I believe. Plus it runs Chrome OS AND Android apps.

Bigger than the Tab S4 too.

If I was gonna go Android for my next tablet that’s the one I’d be looking at...

It's definitely on my radar. I also far prefer the 3:2 aspect ratio to the 16:10 on the S4, though Google has gone a bit too far in mimicking Apple with their pricing and no headphone jack attitude.

I'm hoping it makes an impact if only to rekindle interest in non-iPad tablets. A Samsung-made ChromeOS tablet with improved performance, Amoled, headphone jack, microSD and full desktop Linux support along with Android apps would be a dream come true. Probably far from cheap either but it'd be worth it.

Any difference between using android apps on chromebook vs on android tablet? If there is no difference, then chromebook is basically an android tablet that can run a full desktop chrome browser?

Just got mine in from the Samsung sale that started on Thanksgiving. $100 off and a student discount for being in Grad School was pretty hard to turn down. Got the 64gb and will put it in a 256gb micro sd card. Got to take it out just to inspect and its sweet. Light and thin and not as tall as my S 10.5 with the higher screen to tablet ratio. Just the same premium feel as I've had with other Samsung products. Now to pin down the case..

Unfortunately have to hand it back over to the wife for wrapping and wait til Christmas morning..:(

I wouldn’t know if there is any difference... never used android apps on chrome os before... come to think of it, I don’t think I’ve ever used chrome os period. Your guess is as good as mine.

Congrats on your new tablet!! Let us know what you think of it once you’ve put it through its paces!!!

The Tab S4 will run Android apps a little better. Most apps probably run fine on the Chromebook but there some issues. Some things I've noticed (unless these things have changed in the past month or so):
- there are some apps like the Verizon FIOS app which runs fine on Tab S4 and does not run well at all on Chromebook Pro. It's not usable on the Chromebook.
- SD card support does not work well with many apps. An example is you can't save movies to an SD card with Google Play Movies. Instead they must be stored on the Chromebook's limited internal memory.
- Some apps work but may have specific problems. An example is the Logitech Harmony app. Automatic set up of the hubs does not work, you have to manually enter the IP addresses of the hubs.

Android support has been improving over that past year, but much more slowly than I expected.
