Software Update: Connection failed caused by authentication error

When I perform the OTA software update check, I get the following error:

Software Update
Connection failed caused by authentication error

I was rooted using SuperOneClick so that I could use BloatFreeze to freeze all of the crapware. I unfroze everything, then unrooted using SuperOneClick. What am I not doing right?

This is also a replacement/refurbished phone... which I only mention because it appeared that the LG update wouldn't take on replacement/refurbished unit from what everyone was saying last night.

Maybe it's rolling out in waves and it just hasn't made it to you yet.

Unfortunately that is some defect that for some reason no one can figure out. Some phones can get the ota and some have the error message that prevents you from connecting to the server to check for updates. I was told that that issue would be fixed with GB. Well I updated using the LG updater on my computer, got GB on it and guess what....the error is still there. Personally that is a small nothing for me especially seeing I have a solid unit that does not do random re boots and so on. I guess I will never be able to do an OTA. But I have no issue firing up the comp connecting the usb cord and updating that way. I am considering buying a new SIM card and see if that maybe clears up the error. I have heard from forums that does the trick. You can always try that if OTA are important to you.

My son's G2x has the same error, his is stock, unrooted and is a first time buy, not a refurb.

He's also not having any of the usual G2x problems, so I'm going to leave well enough alone.

Apparently there are numerous units out there with that same issue. Luckily it does not effect the performance of the phone, only makes updates a bit harder seeing you now have to do it via a comp and usb cable. To me that is not a bit deal. Have been updating my bb for years that way so I am used to it. :)

Re: Software Update: Connection failed caused by authentication e

Some people have uninstalled the LG drivers and reinstalled and tried again and it worked. It also seems to take more than one try sometimes.

Uninstalling the drivers clears up the error on the phone?

edit: yep its the refurb prob...my wifes non refurb works fine. Lame! I will go to store tomorrow and demand a new phone for this reason. wish me luck

I'd just ask them if they can install the update.

Not sure for that specific problem, but a lot of people have had to do this to fix errors in general.
